Our old chums the Vikings believed that a giant goat would grant them endless supplies of beer when they died and went to Valhalla.
We’re short on goats at the moment but we can promise you fantastic St Mungo beer and a belt-busting Table Breaker platter when you go to Bar Varia with today’s Big Deal.
Super cool hangout
An independent, Bavarian-themed restaurant and Bier Halle, Bar Varia is a super cool hangout at Snow Factor in Braehead.
A quirky ski-ing and mountaineering flavour runs through the venue.
As well as a stove from a bothy on Ben Nevis, Bar Varia is decorated with 1930s hickory shafted ice axes while the DJ booth is actually a gondola from the Nevis Range.
This excellent Big Deal is for two people to share a Table Breaker platter along with a pint each of St Mungo – brewed in Glasgow at the West brewery.
The food at Bar Varia is all freshly prepared on site using natural ingredients. Paired with smiley, friendly staff, it makes for a fun meal.
The aptly named Table Breaker features:
3 types of German sausage
Bavarian 24 hour marinated chicken
Prime Scottish rib eye steak
Sauerkraut (it’s good for you!)
Bucket of chunky paprika fries
2 generous portions of dip
Visitors have been quick to praise Bar Varia. The friendly staff and lively atmosphere are often singled out for praise as is the food.
This review was posted on TripAdvisor earlier this year:
‘Fantastic food and great service. Tried the “table breaker platter”. Delicious authentic food served on a well stocked platter. Good quality at an affordable price. Helpful friendly staff, great place to take the family. We will definitely be back.’
Today’s Big Deal would be perfect after a session on the slopes at Snow Factor or after visiting any of the other attractions at Braehead.
It is also worth mentioning that Braehead is an official park and ride facility for the Commonwealth Games – handy if you fancy a bite and beer before or after watching some of the Games.
