Glaswegians’ love affair with Indian cuisine is well into its sixth decade now, with no signs of the passion abating.

When news of a new Indian restaurant arrives then, our taste buds go on red alert. The latest establishment on our radar, the Indian Grill on Maryhill Road has a no-nonsense name and a similarly unpretentious approach to dishing up fresh, zingy cuisine, contemporary and classic.

Grill thrills

Available seven days from 4pm to 10pm, the Big Deal is for a two course meal – starter and main – for two, with dishes chosen from the a la carte menu.

The Indian Grill menu offers a combination of the familiar and the slightly less so.

The deal offers pakora, samosas or appetisers as starters, followed by mains chosen from a wide-ranging list. Old favourites are present and correct, along with house specialities that include the hot Jalandhri, with chillis, peppers and onion, and South Indian barbecued chicken or lamb with garlic, chilli and coriander.

Diners who enjoy the fragrant spicing of Indian cuisine without the heat are well catered for at the Indian Grill. Mild dishes include classic butter chicken, Pasanda, and a variety of eight subtly different Kormas to choose from.

There are supplements for some dishes. On the starters list, there is a £1 supplement per person for fish pakora, king prawn poori, chilli chicken and haggis. The mixed platter is not included in the offer. On the mains list lamb tikka and prawn dishes have a £1 supplement, £2 for king prawn dishes, or £3 for any tandoori speciality dish.
