Do you know how many swimming pools could be filled with Scotland’s daily pasta intake?
Nope, neither do we but Scotland’s love of Italian food is so enthusiastic that we bet it is, to use a technical culinary term, pure loads and loads and loads.
If you like great pasta, pizza or risotto then you will feel the amore for today’s Big Deal with Piazza Italia.
Based in the Italian Centre in the Merchant City, Piazza Italia is a family-run restaurant specialising in authentic Italian dishes.
Today’s Big Deal is for two people to enjoy any pasta, pizza or risotto main course from the a la carte menu along with a small glass of wine; half pint or a soft drink.
There are twelve different pizzas to choose from. The simpler options include the Margherita topped with cheese tomatoes and herbs. More complex choices include pizzas topped with pepperoni; Parma ham and, for pineapple lovers, the Cabana which includes cheese, tomato, cured ham and pineapple.
There is an asparagus risotto on offer along with the risotto di mare made with tomatoes, mixed seafood and shellfish.
Pasta lovers have a great selection to choose from. Old faves like the lasagne or the spaghetti carbonara are present and correct alongside dishes like the tagliatelle Cardinale made with prawns in a light tomato, garlic and cream sauce.
Earlier this year, The Daily Record’s Tam Cowan reviewed Piazza Italia and his verdict was that the restaurant is a ‘great family-run place with a buzzy atmosphere that offers a fine Italian feast.’
Tam is not the only one to be impressed. At the time of writing, just under 300 5pm users have eaten there have given Piazza Italia a combined score of 4/5.
