What do you get the person who has everything?
How about a two night break in a beautiful hotel by Scotland’s only lake? Everyone has stayed by a loch but staying by a Scottish lake is unique.
Today’s Big Deal is for a two night mini-break at the gorgeous Lake of Menteith Hotel.
Valid until the end of March 2014, this offer would make a generous Christmas gift or it could be used for a pre-Christmas break – at some point, everyone dreams of getting away from it all in the hectic run-up to the festive period.
Part of the Trossachs National Park but just an hour from Glasgow or Edinburgh, the Lake of Menteith Hotel was originally a 19th century manse. Since being bought and revamped in the warm and welcoming style of a classic New England waterfront hotel, it has won numerous awards including Romantic Hotel of The Year 2009 and Country Hotel of 2009.
As the name suggests, the hotel sits by the side of the Lake of Menteith. The glorious views out over the water and to the islands and mountains beyond are broken only by diving osprey and migrating wildfowl.
2 Night mini-break
Valid Sunday – Thursday, this great offer is for two people to enjoy a two night break in a classic double or twin at the Lake of Menteith Hotel. A full Scottish breakfast each morning is included in the offer.
All the rooms have refurbished and come with Tunnocks treats, mineral water plus cafetiere coffee and tea in-room. Free access WiFi is available throughout the ground floor of the hotel and there is a guest access PC on request.
2 AA Rosettes
A full Scottish breakfast is included in the Big Deal. If you also opt to take lunch or dine in the hotel then you are in for a treat.
The Port Bar offers casual dining and a divine malt selection along with an open fire and large windows looking out onto the Lake.
In the Waterfront Restaurant, the proud holder of two AA Rosettes, you’ll find the finest Scottish produce simply prepared to compliment the breathtaking views out the windows.
Popular dishes include main courses such as the slow cooked shoulder of Scottish lamb flavoured with cumin, garlic, thyme and red wine.
Alternatively, tackle the moules frites – a kilo of steamed West Coast mussels with garlic, shallots, white wine, cream and chunky chips.
Valid until the 30th of March 2014, this offer would make a cracking Christmas present; a great winter getaway or a romantic spring break.
This Big Deal member has eaten at the hotel and, as well as enjoying a stunning location, the place is gorgeous. But you don’t have to believe us. Check the TripAdvisor comments. We shortened this one for length but not meaning:
‘What a find. This hotel was amazing, a secluded picturesque hideaway offering peace and tranquillity… Positioned overlooking Lake Menteith, and recently renovated. It offered comfortable accommodation with a spacious dining and bar area overlooking the lake as well. The restaurant did not disappoint, it also was perfect. My husband had the lamb and I had the salmon and both dishes were mouth watering, the chef was brilliant. Breakfast was beautiful with a wide selection of hot and cold meals. The hotel staff were warm and welcoming and couldn’t do enough for you. It was such a treat to stay here.’
