The Big Deal doesn’t do politics but when it comes to food we like to vote with our stomachs.
Vote ‘Yes’ to the best Scottish produce at Arisaig Bar and Restaurant in Merchant Square.
The popular restaurant serves beautiful Scottish food in the atmospheric, covered courtyard of Merchant Square.
As one happy 5pm reviewer puts it, ‘Feels like outside, inside!’
2 course meal
Whether you choose to eat on the cobbled terrace or in the Arisaig restaurant itself, you are in for a delicious taste of Scotland.
Arisaig’s Head Chef, Steven Tweedie, is hugely proud of not just Scottish ingredients but also traditional Scottish recipes which he tweaks and refines to suit contemporary tastes.
Today’s Big Deal is for one diner to enjoy a starter and main course from the 5pm set menu at Arisaig.
A 175ml glass of wine for each diner is included in the deal.
Great Scottish produce
Scotland’s larder is the envy of Europe’s finest kitchens but you can taste the best Scottish produce on Arisaig’s set menu.
With five starters and five main courses to choose from there is plenty of choice to linger over. Specific dishes change according to what is in season and available but those listed below give a flavour of what Arisaig’s kitchen produces.
From the starters, we particularly like the sound of the smoked cheese and red onion tart; haggis fritters with onion gravy or the chicken and bacon terrine which is served with pickled vegetables and crusty bread.
From the main courses, we are torn between the haggis and clapshot; the crispy duck breast served with chilli red cabbage and the seared salmon which comes with pea puree, spring veg and new potatoes.
Arisaig’s entry on 5pm has plenty of enthusiastic reviews. This one gets straight to the point:
‘Well worth a visit. Good food and good value for money.’ Rating 4.2/5
This TripAdvisor reviewer was also very taken with the Merchant Square restaurant:
‘We love Arisaig! This is a lovely little restaurant that dishes up superb Scottish food and drinks. We live in England and we try and visit Glasgow a couple of times each year. We always book Arisaig to have a meal because we know we will never be disappointed. Great steak, great haggis mash, great service! They look after the kids well here too.’
