A man walks into a chippie with a fish under his arm and asks ‘Do you serve fish cakes in here?’
The owner replies ‘No’.
The man says ‘That’s a shame, it’s his birthday today’.
We thought we’d unleash that one just for the halibut.
OK, we’ll stop with the fishy gags.
Dry your eyes and net today’s Big Deal on fish suppers for two at the ever popular Chippy doon the Lane.
Fresh and authentic
Since opening the doors in 2007, The Chippy Doon the Lane has offered a fresh and up-market twist on the great British tradition of fish and chips.
Situated just off Buchanan Street, at the end of McCormick Lane, the restaurant is housed on the first floor of Glasgow’s iconic McCormick Printers building.
Having completely transformed the building, the owners have been serving up fresh and authentic fish and chips to the families, diners and shoppers of Glasgow ever since.
Available Sunday to Friday from noon until 9pm, the Big Deal option one is for two people to sit in and have a fish supper with the house tartar sauce, lemon and bread & butter. Option two is the same but includes a bottle of house red or white wine to share.
All the fish suppers are freshly battered, cooked to order and served with proper, hand-cut chips.
Customers can choose between fish such as coley, plaice, haddock, cod or lemon sole – all of which have been carefully selected with sustainability in mind.
Sea bass is excluded from this deal.

‘Best fish supper in Glasgow. What a treat!! A real fish supper… The haddock and cod are the freshest and tastiest in Glasgow as are the chips. The staff are all very friendly and welcoming. Do not return home without giving it a visit.’
Located in the middle of Buchanan Street’s many shops, diners can pop in for a bite to eat in between bashing the plastic.
Glasgow Royal Concert Hall and Cineworld are both just a short walk from The Chippy Doon the Lane.
Tuck into today’s Big Deal from The Chippy Doon The Lane.
Just don’t do anything daft. Like going all Edinburgh and drowning your fish supper in salt and sauce.
