From the night markets of Bangkok to the street hawker centres of Singapore via the pho stalls of Saigon, doing a snack crawl of Asian street food should be on the bucket list of every foodie.
Fortunately, with today’s offer, you don’t need a pan-Asian air ticket to enjoy pan-Asian cuisine.
Just book into today’s Big Deal for a three course meal of authentic Asian street food at either the original Bar Soba on Glasgow’s Mitchell Lane, the more recent branch on Byres Road or the very latest branch on Edinburgh’s Hanover Street.
All three venues are hip and happening with stylish graffiti decor, regular DJs and tempting cocktail lists.
Great for a night out with friends; a pre-film meal or simply because you’re mad for some Malaysian sate, today’s offer is a brilliant way to get your teeth into Bar Soba’s 5pm Big Deal menu.
Available Sunday to Thursday, the offer is for one person to enjoy a starter, main course and dessert from the 5pm Big Deal menu at either Glasgow branch of Bar Soba or at the Hanover Street Bar Soba in Edinburgh.
The menu is rather spiffing – as they may say in HK. With five starters, six main courses and three desserts to choose between, you will be spoiled for choice.
From the starters, we’ve got a thing for the chicken sate ayam which is served with Indonesian peanut sauce and a cucumber salad.
However, we can see why you might go for the crisp, Japanese tempura.
The holy basil chilli chicken has our name on it when it comes to the main courses. Others might prefer the tiger prawn and cashew nut chilli noodles or teriyaki beef noodles.
If you want to stay true to the pan-Asian theme then the Balinese black rice pudding with fresh mango would be the most fitting dessert.
There is also a strong case to be made for the gorgeous Bar Soba brownie – made with milk and dark chocolate layers, it’s served with desiccated coconut and coconut ice cream.
5pm customers have given both of Glasgow’s Bar Soba’s a rating of 4.1/5. This is what a recent visitor to the city centre branch thought:
‘Amazing food, lovely staff. Yet again had a lovely meal at Bar Soba. Staff are always really helpful and friendly.’ Rating 5/5
The Edinburgh Bar Soba is just as popular. This review was left on the venue’s 5pm entry a few days ago:
‘Good value-lively fun. The title tells you to expect a wine bar environment – fun, noisy, and good food, good value.’ Rating 4.4/5
