What would be your perfect summer soundtrack? People typing? The air con rattling ineffectually? The slow tick of the office clock?
Or is it the sound of a breeze in the trees; the distant quack of ducks in a country pond and the gentle fizz and pop of the frosted gin and tonic in your hand?
If you prefer the breeze, ducks and cold drinks to the stuffy office then today’s Big Deal with the lovely Moness Hotel and Country Club should strike a suitably summery chord.
Less than two hours from all of Scotland’s major cities, Moness Resort in Perthshire is quick and easy to reach but it feels a long way from the tetchy grind of urban life.
Now a welcoming and comfortable country house hotel set in its own 35 acre estate, Moness House Hotel started life as a baronial shooting lodge way back in 1758.
Lovingly refurbished to retain the integrity of the original while benefiting from all the modern day comforts expected of a four star hotel, Moness House and Resort are an ideal base for exploring this beautiful and unique part of Scotland.
Today’s offer is for two people to stay in a splendid Deluxe Room. Furnished to the highest standard, these lovely rooms feature flat screen TV with satellite channels; Internet access; DVD; Egyptian cotton bed linen; hairdryer, iron and hot drinks facilities.
A full Scottish breakfast and full use of the excellent resort facilities are also included.
Option one is for two consecutive nights stay while option two is for an overnight stay.
Upgrades will be available at £10 per night for a Superior Room and £20 per night for a Suite.
This offer is valid seven days a week. There is a £15 per night supplement for Friday and Saturday night stays.
Guests at the hotel are welcome to use all of the resort’s extensive leisure facilities. The changing rooms, steam room, sauna, individual treatment rooms and poolside showers have recently been refurbished while the heated swimming pool is as popular as ever.
Badminton, mini-tennis, squash, table tennis and pool are all available on site or you could indulge in some luxurious treatments in the new Spa Therapy Rooms.
Scottish restaurant in Perthshire
If you choose to take meals other than breakfast at the resort, then Flemmyngs Restaurant offers an excellent choice of fresh meat, fish and game sourced in Perthshire.
The menu is changed daily but typical dishes might be the hot-smoked salmon and smoked salmon with pickled cucumber and Hollandaise; the slow cooked shin of Aberdeen beef with celeriac purée, fondant potato and roasted root vegetables or the Drambuie scented crème brulée with caramelised orange segments and shortbread.
The more informal Terrace offers a great spread of light bites, bar suppers and nibbles as well as providing the opportunity to eat al fresco when the weather is fine.
See & do in Perthshire
The well presented grounds at Moness Resort are great for leisurely strolls – the duck pond and its family of mallards are always a popular destination. Guests can buy duck food for a £1 from reception – a quick way to make mates with a mallard.
Outside the resort, there are lots of opportunities for water sports, climbing and hill walking. Golfers will be happy to learn that there are over 40 courses nearby and the resort can help with tee times on courses such as Gleneagles.
Alternatively, you could brush up your short game on the resort’s own nine hole putting greens.
Moness Hotel and Resort have inspired plenty of happy visitors to share their experiences on TripAdvisor. The following are from recent guests. We’ve edited for length but not meaning:
‘Wonderful break. Have just returned from a short break at Moness Resort where we stayed in the main hotel. The rooms were beautiful, very comfortable and spotlessly clean. The pool was very good and there was lots to do for the 2 children in our party. Meals were delicious and the staff were very friendly and welcoming. We’ll certainly be back.’
‘A great place. A lovely place to stay, the gardens are well kept; rooms are a great size and a lovely big bathroom with a large bath and a power shower. Staff are very helpful and pleasant, lovely walks all around and a 10min drive away is Kenmore. We went down and you can hire boats to go on the loch.’
