Queen Victoria’s most famous saying was ‘We are not amused’. The trouble is that no-one knows exactly what it was that failed to tickle the imperial funny bone.
Take up today’s Big Deal with the Victorian-themed Ingram Wynd restaurant and your palate will be amused, enchanted and delighted while your bank balance, if not giggling, will almost certainly be smiling regally.
Set in Glasgow’s buzzy Merchant City, Ingram Wynd is an elegant restaurant and bar that blends fascinating Victorian memorabilia with friendly service and delicious, contemporary cuisine.
Covered in etchings, pictures, paintings and maps dating from the 19th century, the decor at Ingram Wynd is a treasure trove of local history.
While the interior design is eye-catching, it is the food which holds the attention. The menus change regularly but typical starters on the lunch menu include haggis stuffed mushrooms with a whisky mayo and the soup of the day served with crusty bread.
Typical main course selections include the fish of the day; pan-fried chicken breast on a bed of new potatoes and, that old favourite, mince and tatties garnished with herb dumplings.
Samples desserts might include the sticky toffee pudding with sweet butterscotch sauce and vanilla ice cream or the spiced pannacotta which comes with a mixed berry compote.
A great alternative to eating an al desko sarnie, today’s Big Deal is for two people to enjoy two courses from the lunch menu in the sumptuous Victorian setting of Ingram Wynd.
The restaurant is popular with 5pm diners. Some 360 or so have rated it 4.3/5 and numerous diners have doffed their toppers to the restaurant with glowing reviews:
