The handsome Ben Wyvis Hotel in Strathpeffer takes its name from the equally grand mountain which can be seen from the hotel’s front facing windows.
Legend has it that, in order to keep the king happy, the local Munro clan had to be able to supply the royal court with a snowball at any time of year if the king asked for one.
The permanently snow-filled corries of Ben Wyvis meant that they could satisfy the king’s demands easily.
The welcoming staff at the Ben Wyvis Hotel might not be able to manage snowballs on demand but, perhaps more usefully, they can provide comfortable rooms, locally sourced food and a cosy bar well stocked with whisky from the surrounding distilleries.
Set in five acres of mature, landscaped grounds, the Ben Wyvis is a 92 bedroom Highland hotel which comes equipped its own putting green and, believe it or not, a 32 seat cinema in which guests can watch DVDs.
Two night stay
This great offer is for two people to enjoy a two night stay in a standard double or twin at the Ben Wyvis Hotel. A three course table d’hote dinner is included on the first night and a full Scottish breakfast will be served on both mornings.
All rooms are ensuite and have a television and hot drinks tray. Free WiFi is available in the hotel’s public areas.
As we have said, a full Scottish breakfast on both mornings is included as is a three course table d’hote dinner in the Jacobite Restaurant on the first night. The menu changes regularly but the kitchen makes the most of local and often organic beef, fish and game. With elegant, dark wood fittings, crisp white linen, slate and sparkling chandeliers, the Jacobite Restaurant is as good looking as the cooking.
With castles, distilleries, dolphin watching in the Moray Firth and some of Scotland’s finest walking country on the doorstep, there is no shortage of things to do at Ben Wyvis. Alternatively, settle in beside the open fire in the Strathview Bar and Lounge. They have over 60 whiskies to explore.
This Big Deal would be perfect for anyone looking to relax on a Highland break. It would also make a lovely surprise gift for a family member. This is what one recent TripAdvisor writer had to say of their experience at the Ben Wyvis:
‘Great character. Lovely hotel, looks fantastic from the outside and beautiful building. Fantastic sized rooms, decor a little old fashioned but a great stay, would recommend. Breakfast is fantastic and service was superb. It’s a great base for seeing both Highland coasts.’
