American barbecue diner cuisine has conquered the world with a twin assault of, 1) being celebrated by TV and Hollywood movies, and 2) being irresistibly delicious.

The land of the free also popularised the notion of brunch, that versatile meal for those times when breakfast is too darned early and yet you are way too hungry to hang on until lunch.

SMOAK BBQ in Glasgow city centre, destination for today’s Big Deal, is fully conversant with what makes a great American eaterie. The deal offers the classic brunch for two, or, if you are looking to eat a little later, juicy burgers for two.

American classics

Having evolved from a popular street food truck to a buzzing restaurant with a truly impressive smoker, the SMOAK chefs don’t compromise in their quest for the finest, classic, American dishes, with the occasional Glasgow accent.

Burger choices

Option one, available Sunday to Thursday from noon to 9pm and Friday noon to 4pm, is for two people to each enjoy a burger from the SMOAK menu.

SMOAK Burgers are all served with fries and pickle spear. Varieties include the Porkies Revenge with pulled pork, slaw, chipotle ketchup, pickles Swiss cheese and smoked aioli, and the Umami 2:0 with Portobello mushrooms, kombu ketchup, blue cheese, bacon and pickled onion, alongside several other appetising combinations.

There is a £2 surcharge for Guadalupe Peak and Double Bass burgers.

Available seven days a week, the Big Deal option two is for two people to each enjoy a dish from the SMOAK brunch menu.

Brunch is served from 9.45am to 11.45am, Monday to Saturday, and from 10.45am until 3.45pm on Sundays.

The bottomless pancake and rib-eye steak options are excluded, which leaves mouth-watering choices such as:

Full breakfast – pork sausages, smoked Ayrshire streaky bacon, Stornoway black pudding, field mushroom, hash browns, sour dough toast, baked beans

Vegetarian breakfast – vegetarian sausages, field mushroom, hash browns, sour dough toast, baked beans, grilled tomato, avocado

Bacon and egg buttie – with tea or coffee.

Avocado on sour dough toast – with grilled tomato and poached free range eggs

Freshly made buttermilk pancake stack – with maple syrup and your choice of fresh berries or smoked Ayrshire streaky bacon

SMOAK has a BYOB policy, so you can bring your own drinks. Corkage is £2.50.
