Elegant Thai in Glasgow city centre
Named after the river that runs through Bangkok, Chaophraya is set over four floors of The Townhouse on Buchanan Street.
It is said to be Europe’s largest Thai restaurant.
It is certainly a strong contender to be the continent’s most spectacular Thai restaurant.
Decorated with wooden elephants, golden Buddhas and what are surely some of Glasgow’s biggest chandeliers, Chaophraya is stunning.
On the ground floor, the Palm Sugar Lounge offers both classic and Thai cocktails and is popular for after work tipples and pre-meal drinks.
Fresh and fragrant Thai
Fragrant, fresh and authentic Thai dishes are the attraction at Chaophraya.
As well as classic dishes such as chicken satay, pad Thai, prawn tom yum soup and green chicken curry, the menu also has more unusual dishes like the soft shell crab salad – a glorious mix of Thai green sour mango, lemon grass, red onion, chillies, peanuts, coriander, radish and fried soft shell crab.
We always have a soft spot for the Weeping Tiger sirloin steak. A Chaophraya classic, it is made with matured sirloin steak which is grilled and served on a sizzling plate with a trio of Thai sauces.
Vegetarians are well catered for at Chaophraya, and the spice levels of each dish are clearly noted should anyone be nervous about the fiery reputation which Thai food has.
