Literature, philosophy, love… the French excel in several areas and enjoy telling us so, but let’s admit it, lunch is among their most undeniable talents.
From the humblest bistro or brasserie to the most elevated Michelin-starred establishments, our friends across the Channel know how to serve the midday meal in style.
With that in mind, say bonjour to today’s Big Deal, a two course lunch at Glasgow’s most venerable French eaterie, La Bonne Auberge.
La Bonne Auberge is well into its fifth decade in Glasgow city centre, serving French and Mediterranean style food, which suggests they have perfected the recipe and have the AA Rosette to prove it.
The restaurant was named Hotel Restaurant of the Year in the inaugural Prestige Awards last year, a hospitality industry accolade voted for the public, with finalists hand-picked by a panel of independent judges.
The cuisine combines French bistro classics with Mediterranean and global favourites.
Available Sundays from 12.30pm until 2pm and Monday to Friday from noon until 2pm, today’s Big Deal offers a two course lunch – main and dessert – for one.
Choose a main and a dessert from:
Freshly prepared soup du jour, made with the finest fresh market ingredients
Roasted pepperonata salad with Highland pressed rapeseed oil and crisp flatbread
Warm chicken and bacon salad, with strawberries, onions, peppers, croutons, pine nuts, boiled egg and pecorino with raspberry vinaigrette
La Bonne Auberge steak haché with peppercorn sauce and fries
Fresh dairy cream profiteroles with chocolate sauce
A selection of ice creams (choose two scoops from vanilla, chocolate, strawberry ice creams, mango or blackcurrant sorbet)
There will be a vegetarian option available on the day. The menu may be subject to change.
5pm diners remain impressed by the cuisine at La Bonne Auberge, giving the restaurant a rating of 4/5, with recent comments including the following:
‘Superb food. Good service, pleasant and welcoming staff. Would certainly recommend.’
‘The food was excellent and the portions were very generous and I would thoroughly recommend it.’
‘The service was first class. The food was great. I will definitely be back soon for another lunch date.’
Vive La France
La Bonne Auberge remains an established favourite on the Glasgow restaurant scene.
