The original Two Fat Ladies on Glasgow’s Dumbarton Road was started in 1989 by a mad genius with money he won from an incredible winning bingo streak. So it’s thanks to legs eleven; 32 buckle my shoe and 52, Danny La Rue that one of Glasgow’s finest seafood restaurants came into being.
Oh alright, we’re fibbing but there is a bingo connection to Two Fat Ladies. It sits on 88 Dumbarton Road and, as any bingo-lover will tell you, the traditional bingo call for 88 is Two Fat Ladies, a reference to the curvy shape of 88.
If you like seafood then you have hit house with today’s Big Deal. Recently given a very swanky refurb, Two Fat Ladies West End is a fish-lover’s paradise. Although there is always a meaty option, it’s the fruits of the sea that take prime place on the menu here. The menu changes but typical dishes might be a king prawn cocktail starter while the choices among the main courses could include a fillet of sea bass with Singapore curry sauce or a cod fillet with a pea puree and ham hough. If the sticky toffee pudding is on the desserts then go for it. It is divine.
So, the Big Deal means that you can have a three course lunch in the Two Fat Ladies West End restaurant for £9 instead of the usual £15.50. That works out at £3 a course which is less than you might pay for a deli sandwich eaten al desko. Another lunchtime spent staring at the computer or a sit down beano in a top restaurant? It’s a no brainer.
