Sometimes you need to say ‘enough is enough’ to Netflix and inject a bit of drama into a Friday or Saturday night instead.
For starters, we’re thinking Gothic cathedral, soaring orchestral sounds and an awestruck crowd?
If this sounds good to you, then treat yourself to a night of spine-tingling classical music by a world-renowned ensemble, London Concertante.
With performances in Glasgow and Edinburgh, you can take your pick between candlelit Vivaldi or your favourite epic movie tunes.
Critically acclaimed ensemble
London Concertante is one of the finest chamber music ensembles in the country. Yet they keep things light by adding jokes and chat to their performances, meaning that classical music newbies feel totally at home.
Today’s Big Deal offers you the chance to watch one of three performances in either St. Giles’ Cathedral in Edinburgh or Glasgow Cathedral.
A complimentary programme and London Concertante CD are included as well.
Music from the Movies
Bit of a movie buff? Fancy hearing an orchestral take on a sweeping Spielberg score?
If so, then head to Music from the Movies at St. Giles Cathedral in Edinburgh on the night of Friday 27th September.
This is your chance to re-experience some of the best cinema music ever written, including ‘Star Wars’, ‘Jurassic Park’, ‘Schindler’s List’, ‘ET’ and ‘The Godfather’. By the end, you’ll probably want to watch those films all over again…
Vivaldi — The Four Seasons by candlelight
Or if Vivaldi is more your bag, then you can enjoy a choice of two performances by flickering candlelight.
Your options are St Giles Cathedral in Edinburgh on Friday 11th October or Glasgow Cathedral on Saturday 12th October.
As well as The Four Seasons, the recital will also include Vivaldi’s Concerto for Two Violins in A minor; Mozart’s Eine Kleine Nachtmusik, and Bach’s Concerto for two Violins.
Classical music critics have been showering praise on London Concertante. Here are a couple of snippets:
‘First class musicians… the muscle in each individual’s playing gave such a punch… extraordinary’ – Sunday Express
‘Thoroughly impressive, with what can only be described as consummate artistry. The players to show off their individual virtuosity as well as the warmth and sensitivity of their ensemble playing’ – Halifax Courier
Do something different
Every so often, you need to take yourself out of ordinary, everyday life and experience something truly sublime. This Big Deal gives you a chance to do just that in a cathedral setting with bags of atmosphere.
Now all you have to do is choose between dramatic classical by candlelight or timeless cinema soundtracks. Oh, the dilemma…
