There is a long running feud between certain parts of Devon and Cornwall as to the correct way to eat a scone.
Should the clotted cream or the jam be applied first? It is a question which has split families and broken marriages.
We consulted the Big Deal’s expert on afternoon tea etiquette. After consulting Debrett’s Modern Manners, and cogitating over several pots of Darjeeling, their considered judgement was ‘Wevs!’
Spread harmony with today’s Big Deal on afternoon tea for two at the Terrace Restaurant.
Whether you choose to spread jam or cream first is entirely up to you.
Part of the Crowne Plaza Edinburgh – Royal Terrace, The Terrace Restaurant is situated…
Can you guess? It is on Royal Terrace – one of Edinburgh’s finest Georgian streets.
The restaurant is located on the ground floor and opens out onto the hotel’s beautiful, private, terraced gardens.
If the weather is kind – absolutely no promises – you may be able to enjoy your afternoon tea in the gardens.
If not, the decor in the restaurant is smart and contemporary. The Lounge Bar would be another option.
Seven days a week
Available from noon to 4pm, seven days per week, option one is for two people to have afternoon tea.
Option two adds a glass of Prosecco for each diner while option three means you can share a chilled bottle of Prosecco with your afternoon tea.
Served on a three tier stand, afternoon tea at the Terrace Restaurant is a classic combination of sandwiches, scones with cream and jam plus, of course, delicious cakes.
The hotel uses excellent Brodies loose leaf tea. Among other options, the choice includes Scottish Breakfast, Famous Edinburgh, Earl Grey, Darjeeling and Gunpowder Green.
The Terrace Restaurant has attracted good reviews on TripAdvisor:
‘Delicious food. Excellent choice and delicious food, lovely dining room with outlook to Royal Terrace Gardens. Our waitress was lovely – friendly and efficient.’
‘Had afternoon tea here yesterday afternoon… the girl we had serving us named Jane worked extremely hard, taking care of our every need and recommending a beautiful pot of tea. The food was lovely and ample and the brownies were lush. All in all, a lovely experience. Thank you very much x’
Afternoon tea is a wonderful treat. Bag yours with today’s Big Deal.
It would also be handy for a pre-theatre bite if you are going to see Shrek the Musical at The Playhouse. The Terrace Restaurant is just around the corner from the theatre.
