It’s true that the best things in life have a beginning, middle and end. These include stories, symphonies and three course meals.
And of course, today’s Big Deal from Guerlain Spa at Waldorf Astoria Edinburgh.
This pampering day begins with a massage, has a luscious facial in the middle and ends with some pool, sauna and jacuzzi time.
It all sounds pretty perfect, if you ask us.
The question is, who in your life deserves this as a fabulous Christmas gift?
Escape to Guerlain
The spa at the Waldorf Astoria Edinburgh is the only one in Scotland run by legendary French cosmetics giants, Guerlain.
As you might guess, the spa is designed to help you unwind from the moment you step through the door. The decor is in soothing shades of cream and wood, with golden potion bottles lining the shelves (we hope that they contain the Elixir of Youth). You will be given a cosy robe and slippers to slip into once you arrive.
Your massage and facial will take place in one of Guerlain’s custom-designed treatment rooms, which are designed to look like the cabin of a ship. So while being pampered you can lie back and imagine you are on a long, balmy ocean voyage to a mythical island.
Pampering and Prosecco
Your beauty therapist will start with a signature Caledonian Chic Massage. Created especially for the Waldorf Astoria Edinburgh, you won’t get this treatment anywhere else in the world.
After you are relaxed from your massage, you will enjoy a Taster Radiance Facial, designed to leave your skin smooth and glowing.
A bit of fizz will be added to the day with a cheeky glass of Prosecco, which will hopefully add to the top-to-toe tingles you will be feeing from the treatments.
Your massage and facial will take around 90 minutes. Afterwards, you can escape into the blissful refuge of the Guerlain’s swimming pool, sauna, jacuzzi and steam room. You will be welcome to use these facilities for the entire day, so your only challenge will be in tearing yourself away.
The Waldorf Astoria is a historic city landmark in the shadow of Edinburgh Castle. It is based on Princes Street, just a 15 minute stroll from both Waverley and Haymarket train stations.
After your day of pampering, you might enjoy afternoon tea in the hotel’s Peacock Alley. This elegant cafe bar takes its inspiration from the New York Waldorf Astoria of old, meaning that it wouldn’t look out of place in a roaring 1940s Hollywood musical (you could even order a martini or three to get into the spirit of things).
Alternatively, you could enjoy a meal in one of the hotel’s two impressive restaurants – The Pompadour or the Galvin Brasserie. They are both the vision of Michelin-starred chefs, the Galvin Brothers.
Guerlain Spa at the Waldorf Astoria Edinburgh has enjoyed positive reviews on TripAdvisor, including the following, edited for length:
‘This Spa is an oasis of calm, relaxation and luxury. A visit here is one of the most amazing spa experiences you will have and will make you want to return again and again.’ Rating 5/5
‘Very nice place to take the time for yourself. The Caledonian massage with the therapist Jillian was such a relaxing experience and very professional with the firm touch in the stiffnesses areas, such as neck and shoulders. The room was warm and nicely prepared with a fragrance of the guest’s choice…definitely worth the time spent there!’ Rating 5/5
‘Everything about my visit for a full body massage was excellent. The receptionist and therapist both went out of their way to make my visit enjoyable. The setting is quietly opulent and the massage itself very good indeed. I have booked for another visit tomorrow!’ Rating 5/5
