Robert Louis Stevenson once said that ‘Wine is bottled poetry’.

Take up today’s Big Deal with the Wine Gang and you’ll have a rhyme old time at their Christmas Wine Fair.

The Wine Gang are five of the UK’s most influential wine critics who all know their Amarone from their Verdeho.

This Saturday November 12th they are holding a Christmas Wine Fair at The Merchant’s Hall on 22 Hanover Street in Edinburgh.

Running from noon to 6pm, it will be a fantastic event at which wine lovers can taste not only hundreds of wines in the £6-£12 range but also a stunning selection of high end bottles which will also be free to taste on the day.

These include:

2000 Vega-Sicilia Unico (£220.00 a bottle)

2008 William Fevre Chablis Grand Cru Bougros (£69.00)

2008 Neige Canadian Ice Wine (£25.00)

2009 Mt Difficulty Central Otago Pinot Noir (£24.99)

2005 Yalumba The Signature (£26.99)

Cattier Brut Antique Champagne NV (£29.00)

There are free wine walks running throughout the day, where one of the Gang will lead you on a taste tour of some of their favourites wines, and the programme of optional masterclasses (sit-down, tutored tastings of eight  wines in an adjoining room)  is an unmissable highlights for many attendees.

The subjects covered include Portugal: Europe’s Best Kept Secret with Tom Cannavan; Magnificent Malbec with Anthony Rose; Chile’s Key Valleys with Jane Parkinson and ‘Think You Know Chablis?’ with Martin Straus
