The Chateaubriand steak was named after François-René de Chateaubriand, a Vicomte who is thought of as the founder of French Romanticism.
Be seduced by today’s Big Deal on Chateaubriand for two at The Pompadour by Galvin.
Part of the five star Waldorf Astoria Edinburgh – The Caledonian, the restaurant takes its name from the celebrated Madame de Pompadour, the favourite mistress of King Louis XV of France.
Best table in Edinburgh
Madame de Pompadour was installed in the magnificent Palace at Versailles and the extravagant, listed interior décor of The Pompadour reflects the sumptuousness of the French royal court.
In fact, the restaurant has long enjoyed the reputation of having the best table in Edinburgh with impressive views overlooking Princes Street and Edinburgh Castle through the panoramic arched windows.
Three AA Rosettes
With three AA Rosettes to its name, The Pompadour is as famed for its cuisine as it is for its dining room.
The restaurant is led by brothers Jeff and Chris Galvin who have earned multiple Michelin stars and AA Rosettes. Acclaimed chef Fraser Allan is the Executive Chef charged with overseeing the brothers’ vision.
The kitchens combine the best of classical French-inspired cuisine with locally sourced Scottish ingredients to provide a unique fine dining experience.
Available Tuesday to Thursday, from 6pm to 10pm, the offer is for two people to share a Chateaubriand steak.
Cooked to your specification, this luxurious cut of beef will be served with pommes Anna plus a watercress and brown butter Béarnaise sauce.
The sommelier will select a bottle of wine to complement the steak.
The Pompadour by Galvin has been winning friends and admirers since it opened in 2012. When The Observer’s Jay Rayner reviewed the restaurant, he reckoned that ‘Class act doesn’t quite cover it – these boys know exactly what they are doing.’
They certainly do. As this TripAdvisor review makes clear:
‘Attentive and thoughtful experience. Simply perfect. From the moment we arrived and had our coats placed in the cloakroom to the moment we left with a lovely token of fudge, this dining experience was exquisite. We visited The Pompadour for my Mum’s birthday, all the staff made it such a special occasion. The care and attention they put in to every part of our evening was beyond perfect. Couldn’t recommend it enough…’
A romantic dinner; marking a special occasion; saying thank you to someone who means a lot – this Big Deal at The Pompadour by Galvin is the perfect way to celebrate all of these events.
