There is 60 minutes remaining and you have to find a way to get out of the room. No, it’s not another one of those nightmare flashbacks to double maths lessons, it’s the latest adventure sport gripping the nation.

Escape Rooms pit you against a series of puzzles, challenges, riddles and brain-teasers, in an attempt to find a way out of a locked room. It’s a great activity for groups of friends, offering an exciting game-show experience without having to exchange cheesy banter with an annoying host.

Today’s Big Deal offers an hour-long session with Escape Rooms Scotland for a group of up to six participants. Get out of that one.

Escape to victory

Escape Rooms Scotland have four centres – Glasgow, Edinburgh, Stirling and Dundee – offering a variety of fiendishly ingenious rooms to test your wits and ingenuity. The escape rooms follow a theme, such as a jail or a zombie quarantine unit, with appropriate clues and challenges.

The Big Deal offers an hour-long Escape Room challenge for up to six players in Edinburgh, based in Spilt Milk Social Club on Great Junction Street.

Games begin with a briefing from the Escape Rooms staff, explaining the rules and procedure. Then your group is led into one of the carefully designed rooms, the door will be locked behind you, and your countdown to escape will begin.

The games are designed to challenge everyone and push you to your limits. Each room has a difficulty rating and a live leader board to encourage you to think fast and make the right choices. At the end of your game, there will be a recap of your performance and an explanation of any unsolved puzzles that you didn’t finish. The session will last around 90 minutes from start to finish.

Outbreak is an adult room for two to six people, and The Bunker is a family room for two to six people. The Bunker suitable for ages 8 and over, with all under 16s to be accompanied by an adult.

Essentially, two friend groups could play against each other if both rooms are available to book at the same time.
