First opened in 1925, The Pompadour restaurant was the jewel in the crown of what was then known as the Caledonian Hotel.

Almost a hundred years later, The Pompadour by Galvin is still one of Edinburgh’s most iconic restaurants.

While it may be the Grand Old Dame of the capital’s restaurant scene, the kitchen team moves with the times and The Pomp offers classic French-influenced dishes with a contemporary aesthetic.

The restaurant takes its name from the celebrated Madame de Pompadour, the favourite mistress of King Louis XV of France.

Madame de Pompadour was installed in the magnificent Palace at Versailles and the extravagant, listed interior décor of The Pompadour reflects the sumptuousness of the French royal court.

In fact, the restaurant has long enjoyed the reputation of having the best table in Edinburgh with impressive views overlooking Princes Street and Edinburgh Castle through the panoramic arched windows.

Three AA Rosettes

With three AA Rosettes to its name, The Pompadour is as famed for its cuisine as it is for its dining room.

The restaurant is led by brothers Jeff and Chris Galvin who have earned multiple Michelin stars and AA Rosettes. Acclaimed chef Fraser Allan is the Executive Chef charged with overseeing the brothers’ vision.

The kitchens combine the best of classical French-inspired cuisine with locally sourced ingredients to provide a unique fine dining experience

Available from 1pm to 2.30pm on Sundays, the offer is for two people to have a three course meal from the Sunday Lunch menu plus a Bloody Mary each.

Rillettes of 55 day aged Berkshire pig, apple and English muffins

Hay Salt baked Crapaudine beetroot, 15 year old balsamic vinegar and sorrel

Duck leg ravioli, carrot puree, spinach & smoked marrow

Onion & pearl barley risotto, roast baby onions

Roast rump of beef, glazed carrots & cavalo nero

Hand Rolled Linguini, Parmigiano Reggiano, White Alba Truffle (£4 supplement)

Fillet of brill, Berwick crab and smoked sweetcorn

Apple crumble millefeuille, lime ice-cream
