When Marco Pierre White first arrived in London, he was sixteen years old and had £7.36 in his pocket.

By the time he was 33, he had three Michelin stars and had changed the face of restaurants in Britain.

The new Marco Pierre White Steakhouse is part of a multi-million refurbishment of Hilton Edinburgh Carlton Hotel.

The restaurant on the North Bridge is a sleek, contemporary dining room with a moody black and white picture of The Guv’nor beside his trademark black and white throne.

Fillet steak

Valid until the end of April 2017, this Big Deal would make a great introduction to Marco’s latest restaurant.

It would also make a fantastic present for a food-loving friend.

Available from 5.30pm to 7pm, Sunday to Friday, option one is for two people to have a fillet steak served with pommes frites and a green salad with a Merlot dressing.

The steaks are 28 day-aged and supplied by Campbells. The offer includes a bottle of Chilean Merlot or Sauvignon Blanc to share.

Three course meal

Available from 5.30pm to 7pm, seven days a week, option two is for one person to have three courses from the pre-theatre menu.

As well as a glass of Prosecco, the offer includes tea or coffee.

Individual dishes may change depending on what is in season but your menu will look a lot like this:

Chicken liver pâté, brioche bread, tomato & apple chutney

Salad of smoked salmon with capers & lemon

Main courses

9oz rib-eye, triple-cooked chips & grilled beef tomato (£8 supplement)

Grilled chicken supreme, potatoes dauphinoise, green beans & roasting juices

Grilled 8oz salmon steak with roast vine tomatoes & pommes frites

Macaroni of wild mushrooms, cep velouté sauce & poached egg (v)

Puddings

Vanilla cheesecake with spiced soft fruit compote

Warm chocolate brownie with milk ice cream

Local cheese board, quince & oatcakes

Side orders such as wilted baby spinach, creamed cabbage & bacon or crispy onion rings are available at £3.50 a portion.
