A Polynesian paradise in Edinburgh city centre, the Auld Reekie Tiki Bar is on Frederick Street.

It is a warren-like basement bar which is easily identifiable by the Easter Island style heads which guard its entrance.

Say ‘Aloha!’ to good times

If you have yet to swing by, this Big Deal on a cocktail master class and Thai meal for two is the ideal excuse to say ‘Aloha!’

Available from 3pm to 9.30pm, Monday to Thursday and noon to 9.30pm, Friday to Sunday, the offer is for two people to have a cocktail master class plus a two course Thai meal.

The class will start with one of the knowledgeable bar tenders giving you a brief history of the Tiki phenomenon and an introduction to the diverse world of Tiki cocktails.

You will be shown how to make two cocktails from the Tiki list and then it is your turn to go behind the bar and try your hand at shaking things up.

After making your first drink, you will be served your starters and then it is back to drinks school.

After you have made your second drink, your main courses will be served.

Great South East Asian dishes

All the curry pastes and dipping sauces in the Auld Reekie Tiki Bar are made in-house and the food is fresh not frozen.

The chicken is free range and the beef is British. The head chef is from Bangkok and he knows his way around a hot wok.

The blackboards might joke that the soup of the day is rum but there is much more on offer here. From Malaysian rendang to Thai red curry, the kitchen likes to explore the food of South East Asia. Whether you want a Crying Beef Tiger salad or a tofu and veggie red curry, The Auld Reekie Tiki chefs can oblige.

Late night Tiki bar in city centre

If you stick around afterwards, fun is very much on the menu here. Along with DJs and dancing, the attractions include live sport, foosball and vintage arcade games.
