It would be nice if Scottish weather could take a leaf from its Mediterranean counterpart and soak us all in endless sunshine. But frankly, that’s as likely as chocolate rain.
Thankfully though, Scottish cuisine is another thing altogether and many of our national dishes lend themselves very well to European influences.
ISHKA restaurant in Edinburgh knows this all too well, which is why it bills its food as ‘the best in Modern Scottish cuisine with nods to the Mediterranean’.
If this sounds tempting, try it for yourself with today’s Big Deal for a two course meal for two from their market menu, plus a cocktail each.
Modern Scottish cuisine
ISHKA actually means ‘love’ in Hindi, and we’re hoping that you will love this Big Deal for two people to enjoy two courses from ISHKA’s market menu. A cocktail is also included for each diner.
This deal is available Monday to Friday, from 5pm until 7.30pm.
Sample the market menu
As mentioned, you will be dining from ISHKA’s Market Menu. This could include starters such as chicken and pork terrine with pickled vegetables and toasted bread or the Scottish lager steamed mussels with chopped garlic, parsley and handcrafted bread.
Mains might feature the bangers and mash, beef and haggis sausages with creamy mash potato, peas and gravy or the chargrilled bavette steak with skinny fries and salad.
Desserts include baked apple and plum, golden syrup and coconut crumble with Arran rum and raisin ice cream and the orange trifle with blood orange jelly, sweet mandarins, raspberry jam swiss roll sponge and vanilla custard.
Each diner will enjoy a cocktail each from the choices below:
Edinburgh rhubarb & ginger gin, lemon juice, gomme, Prosecco
Spice up your life
Jameson, mandarin liqueur, lemon juice, cinnamon gomme, orange bitters
Ciroc pineapple, aperol, lime juice, grapefruit & mint
Edinburgh plum & vanilla gin, cranberry juice, lime juice, gomme, peach liqueur, Prosecco
I spy a pear pie
Ketel one vodka, egg white, pear puree, orgeat, lemon juice, vanilla gomme, walnut butters
Put the lime with the kiwi & mix it all up
Calle 23 tequila, kiwi puree, lime juice, gomme, lime salt rim
Stylish city centre dining
ISHKA is a sleek restaurant & cocktail bar on Morrison Street, opposite the Edinburgh International Conference Centre.
Diners can enjoy contemporary Scottish cuisine in a light, airy space with an eye-catching silvery ceiling and great street views from the sweeping windows. A marble cocktail bar adds an extra touch of glamour.
ISHKA has its own original cocktail list that you can sample after your meal, including the intriguingly named Femme Fatale, Cloak & Dagger and Secret Manuscript.
5pm diners have plenty of praise for ISHKA, in particular for the quality of the food and the service. We have edited the reviews below for length:
