While it is always a pleasure to see the Festival roll into town, many Edinburgh residents are not exactly weeping when it rolls back out again some three weeks later.
Mark the end of what will, hopefully, be another fantastic Festival with today’s Big Deal on a Champagne lunch at Edinburgh’s Hotel du Vin.
Available from Tuesday 26th August, this sweet offer is for two people to enjoy a lavish three course lunch from the prix fixe menu at the Bistro du Vin in Edinburgh’s Hotel du Vin.
A chilled glass of champagne will help ease you into your lunch and, of course, there is tea and coffee to finish.
Available Monday to Saturday, this offer would be a lovely treat for a friend or it could make for a luxurious break in a marathon shopping trip. You could even use it for a lunch date with a loved one. Champagne, lunch and then the afternoon is yours to spend as you please.
The Bistro du Vin is tucked away off a beguiling courtyard in Edinburgh’s atmospheric Old Town. It’s a warm, welcoming space with restored fireplaces, reclaimed floorboards and lots of wine merchant memorabilia.
Seasonal & locally sourced
The kitchen team specialise in producing the sort of hearty, delicious cooking that people want to eat.
It’s not fine dining or faffy but it is fresh, seasonal, locally sourced and, wherever possible, created from organic produce.
The prix fixe menu changes every day depending on what is available but typical starters might be the Innis and Gunn baby back ribs or the merguez sausage with rocket salsa.
Popular main courses from the prix fixe include the herb-crusted hake with braised Puy lentils and the coq au vin served with spaetzle.
Leave space for desserts such as the crème brûlée or the rhubarb crumble with vanilla ice cream.
Sides such as the pommes frites, wilted spinach and honey-roasted carrots will be charged at £3.75.
This 5pm Big Deal writer is a fan of HdV’s Bistro. I like the cosy feel of the place; the food is hugely satisfying and the wine list, as you might imagine, makes for tempting reading.
I’m not alone. At the time of writing, just over a 150 5pm Restaurant customers have rated the bistro a healthy 4.2/5. This is what a recent diner had to say about their experiences:
‘Excellent lunch and very good value. Top quality food in very pleasant surroundings. Staff attentive and efficient.’
It looks as though Edinburgh is going to enjoy another brilliant Festival. Book in for today’s Big Deal on a Champagne lunch at Hotel du Vin and give yourself a post-festive treat to look forward to.
