Nineteen Hundred Bar and Lounge

Back in the Eighties and Nineties, the landmark Hilton hotel on the North Bridge often played host to bands performing at the nearby Playhouse.

Rock and punk legends such as The Stranglers and Alice Cooper were among the visitors.

Unfortunately, history has not recorded whether or not Mr Cooper, AKA the Godfather of Shock Rock, ever took afternoon tea during a stay.

Available from noon to 5pm, seven days a week, this offer is for two or four people to have afternoon tea with an Edinburgh Gin & tonic or glass of Champagne for each guest.

At afternoon tea, guests will be served dainty sandwiches such as salmon and cucumber; ham and sweet chilli; chicken and tomato chutney and egg mayonnaise with pumpkin seeds – all served on a mixture of brown and white bread.

The fruit and plain scones are served with clotted cream and strawberry jam while the cake selection will include a mini Victoria sponge, lemon tart, chocolate brownie and a carrot cake with a walnut topping.

Please note that hot drinks are not included in this deal (but who needs tea when you can have a cheeky G&T or Champagne?).

Multi-million pound refurbishment

Centrally located just off the Royal Mile, the hotel recently benefited from a multi-million pound make-over and it looks very stylish.

In particular, the Nineteen Hundred Bar and Lounge with its striking marble bar is a sophisticated place for an afternoon treat.

This deal would be ideal as part of a day out in Edinburgh, as Hilton Edinburgh Carlton is handy for city centre shops such as Harvey Nicks. It’s also within easy walking distance of the castle and the National Museum of Scotland.
