You don’t have to like whisky to appreciate this Big Deal but, if you do, then it promises to be a spiritual experience in more ways than one.
The Quaich Bar at the Craigellachie is famous among whisky aficionados for its extensive whisky collection.
By extensive, we mean ginormous, truly massive, huge. We’re speaking over 700 different bottles all ranged along the walls of the snug bar.
Even if you think that you don’t like whisky, we’re pretty sure that there will be at least one in there that tickles your palate.
2 night break
The deal is for two people to enjoy a two night stay at the Craigellachie, deep in spectacular Speyside. As well as a three course dinner for two on the first night, the deal also includes a 30 minute whisky tasting for two in which you’ll taste four classic malts.
What’s more, you can set yourself up for a day exploring one of Scotland’s most scenic regions with a full cooked Scottish breakfast on each morning of your stay.
The Craigellachie Hotel was built in 1893 and is located within the beautiful village of Craigellachie, near Elgin.
While the hotel still offers the rare opportunity to savour the style and elegance of a bygone era, all the modern comforts such as WiFi access are available.
The Craigellachie has 26 en-suite bedrooms, some of which have eye-catching views of the River Spey and the famous 1814 Thomas Telford Bridge which spans it.
The Ben Aigan restaurant at the hotel has been awarded an AA Rosette for the quality of its cooking.
The menu changes according to what it is in season but takes its cue from Scotland’s larder. Scottish shellfish, game fish and Aberdeen Angus beef all feature regularly.
This Big Deal writer has stayed at the Craigellachie and, while the Quaich Bar was always going to make it a hit with me, the rest of the hotel was just as atmospheric.
Its TripAdvisor reviews are very enthusiastic. This is what one of the most recent guests to leave a review had to say:
‘One of the best hotels I have stayed in. We went to the Craigellachie hotel this weekend with my parents to celebrate my dad’s birthday. The staff could not be more helpful or friendly. The rooms we had were amazing as was the fantastic 6 course meal we had. We were also treated to a private whisky tasting which I would highly recommend. I will definitely be going back.’
