Cirque du Ciel ShangHi will be wowing the crowds at Edinburgh Playhouse this week with their dazzling acrobatics, aerial skills and martial arts.
Just across the road, the recently revamped Shezan Punjabi and Indian restaurant will be putting on an equally crowd-pleasing performance but using samosas and chicken tikka masala rather than the modern dance and monkey poles employed by the Cirque crew.
A family-run restaurant, the Shezan has been entertaining Edinburgh’s curry-loving palate since 1977.
Recently revamped and refreshed with a stunning Bollywood style interior, it offers genuine Punjabi and Indian dishes made to authentic recipes.
Cooked to perfection by head chef Mr Abdul, the Shezan’s dishes are all made with fresh ingredients and contain no artificial colourings or preservatives: it’s just good, wholesome, finger-licking curry.
What you get
This Big Deal is for two people to each enjoy a starter and main course with pilau rice and nan bread to share.
There are no restrictions on the dishes you can choose but the grill tandoori specials will incur a supplement of £1.50 for each starter and £3 for each main course.
The offer also includes a small glass of house wine for each diner.
From chicken pakora via veggie samosas to stuffed poori pancakes, there are plenty of starters to choose from.
The main courses offer an even wider choice. From Punjabi garlic chicken masala to butter chicken via patias, kormas and vindaloos, Shezan has something to suit everyone whether you are a cautious curry convert or the most mad for it madras lover.
Its location opposite the Playhouse makes the Shezan ideal for a pre or post show meal but today’s Big Deal voucher is valid at any time.
Whenever you choose to visit, you can be sure of having a cracking meal. Previous visitors have loved it. This is a shortened version of a long review left by a recent TripAdvisor writer:
‘Great pre-theatre meal… The restaurant has recently been refurbished and is very contemporary with good quality dishes and glasses. Everything was spotlessly clean which is always a good start and the meal did not disappoint. Starters and mains tasted really fresh and were nicely presented. The service was attentive without being intrusive so there were no long waits between courses and no pressure to vacate the table.’
