Marco’s new Edinburgh restaurant has attracted plenty of acclaim since opening last year. Today’s Big Deal offers the chance to find out why with an invitation to lunch at the Marco Pierre White Steakhouse at the Edinburgh Carlton Hotel. 

Style and substance

Marco’s portrait gazes down at diners in the new North Bridge dining room, a sleek, contemporary décor space that is classy and imposing without being austere.

Available Sunday to Friday from noon until 2pm and Saturdays from noon until 4pm, the Big Deal is for two people to have a main course lunch with a bottle of still or sparkling water to share, and tea or coffee.

Individual dishes may change depending on what is in season but typical mains include:

Chicken à la forestière – roast chicken supreme, wild mushrooms, wilted baby spinach, potatoes Dauphinoise

Seared yellowfin tuna steak with panzanella salad, cherry tomatoes, capers, croutons, red onion, fresh basil, Merlot dressing

The Governor’s fish and chips – beer battered haddock, triple-cooked chips, mushy peas and sauce tartare

Wheeler’s fish curry with mango and coriander and buttered rice

Roast rump of lamb à la Dijonnaise, haricot verts, potatoes Dauphinoise and roasting juices

Steaks, 28-day aged, from Campbell Brothers, are also available, with an £8 supplement.
