Tucked away off a beguiling courtyard in the atmospheric Old Town, Edinburgh’s Bistro du Vin is a warm, welcoming space with lots of wine merchant memorabilia and restored fireplaces – very handy for when things turn frosty.

This Big Deal is for two people to enjoy a glass of Hotel du Vin Lombard & Co Cuvée Champagne and a lavish meal from the prix fixe menu at Edinburgh’s Hotel du Vin.

Option one is for a two course dinner, and option two is for a three course lunch. Both options are available Monday to Friday from the start of March until 31st May.

Robust, warming dishes

Inspired by French home-style cooking with robust earthy dishes, and slow-cooked foods, Bistro du Vin’s Gallic-influenced menu is always a treat.

The exact dishes on the prix fixe menu will change depending on the produce available. Typical starters might be the charred Grimsby mackerel with salt baked beetroots and basil, or the Warwickshire truckle cheese fondue with Ratte potatoes and Altamura sourdough.

Hearty main courses include the Highland game venison and beetroot pie – haunch of venison slowly cooked with Freedoms Pils beer, topped with slices of Heritage beetroot, served with fat cut chips – or the Evesham purple sprouting broccoli and Cavolo Nero pappardelle pasta with kale pesto and vegetarian style Parmesan.

Desserts like the Valhrona chocolate tart with Stratford bees honey and crème fraiche and the Hudsons Farm bramley apple crumble with vanilla ice cream are on offer.

Extra sides, such as the pommes frites, wilted spinach and honey-roasted carrots, will be charged at £3.95.
