The Malmaison in Edinburgh’s Leith opened in 1994.

The first in the Mal family, it is the Mother of all Mals.

A few years have passed since those heady day but – thanks to a major refurbishment completed a little over a year ago – Malmaison Edinburgh is looking more suave than ever.

See how its stays on top of the game with today’s Big Deal on either a burger, beer and fries for two, or a three course meal for two from their appealing prix fixe spring menu with Prosecco.

Le Burger

Available from noon to 6pm, Monday to Saturday, and served in Mal Bar, option one is for two people to each have Le Burger with a glass of house wine or beer each plus fries to share.

We’re all for experimenting when it comes to food, but sometimes you just don’t mess with the classics.

Served with red onion, dill pickle and burger relish, Le Burger shows how it is done.

Extra toppings – blue cheese, Gruyère, bacon – can be added to Le burger for £1 each.

Alternatively, you could upgrade your order to a classic Mal burger for a £2 per person surcharge.

The Mal burger consists of a 250g beef patty topped with Gruyère cheese and Ayrshire bacon, served with gem lettuce, beef tomato, red onion, dill pickle and burger relish.

Seasonal menu

Option two is for two people to have three courses from the seasonal prix fixe menu plus a glass of Prosecco each in the Chez Mal brasserie.

This Big Deal writer has tried the spring menu and it is as fresh and vibrant as an April shower.

Try the light and zingy grilled masala spiced mackerel or the pan-fried river trout which is served with pea and broad bean purée, Anya potatoes and truffle vinaigrette.

The chicken Milanese – breaded chicken breast with a Burford Brown fried egg, truffle mayonnaise and rainbow chard – is delicious comfort food.

Desserts like the warm Valrhona caramel chocolate brownie served with brown butter pecan ice cream are as chunky as they are satisfying.

Summer menu is coming

The menu will switch from the spring menu to the new summer version over the validity of this offer so the dishes available will change.

This option is available for lunch, noon to 2pm, Monday to Saturday and for dinner, 6pm-9pm, Sunday to Friday and 6pm-7pm (last orders) on Saturdays.

Go Mal
