What do you call a fake piece of spaghetti? An impasta!
A new year, same old gags.
Happily today’s Big Deal with Al Dente on Easter Road is as fresh as they come and, if you like authentic Italian food, then you will be laughing all the way to the table with this offer.
Al Dente is a cosy, family-run restaurant on Easter Road.
Since 1998, it has been staffed by a passionate team who are eager to share the secrets of Italian cooking.
A la carte menu
This brilliant offer is a great introduction to the culinary magic conjured up by Graziano and his boys at Al Dente.
It is a straightforward offer. Each voucher costs £15 and can be redeemed for up to £30 worth of dishes from the mouth-watering a la carte or pre-theatre menus at Al Dente.
The offer is available for lunch, noon-2pm, Tuesday to Saturday and, in the evenings, it is available 5.30pm-7.30pm, Monday to Thursday, and from 5pm-6.30pm on Fridays and Saturdays.
The choice of delicious dishes on the a la carte is as wide as it is tempting. Popular starters include the fresh Scottish mussels in a tomato sauce; the Bresaolo beef in a lemon vinaigrette and, of course, the calamari.
The pasta selection is brilliant. We like the look of the seafood spaghetti, studded with clams, mussels, king prawns and squid.
However, we could see why anyone would choose the pappardelle with venison ragu instead.
We would happily clean our plates after ordering the duck with a sweet plum sauce. Fish lovers might prefer the pan-fried monkfish served with pine kernels, basil and cherry tomatoes on a bed of roasted
potatoes and seasonal vegetables.
For dessert, the classic tiramisu, apple tart or the Amaretti biscuits parfait served with a mocha coffee sauce would all make us smile.
Very well reviewed on TripAdvisor, Al Dente has an enthusiastic customer base that keeps coming back. This is what one visitor thought of a recent meal. We’ve edited it for length but not meaning:
‘Very welcoming and absolutely delicious. We took a group of about twenty people and were looked after as though we were at someone’s home. The food was freshly prepared – which does take a bit longer – but that was fun because we just had more time to sample the house wine. The best proper Italian food I have had and an ambience to match it. It is always a gamble choosing somewhere to suit everyone’s tastes and budget but this paid off. The whole party commented on the wonderful food, wines and good value for money. Will go back.’
