In January, the papers carried the news that Jack LaLanne had passed away, aged 96, in California. Often viewed as the father of health and fitness in America, he opened what is thought to have been the country’s first health club in 1936.
In the early years, many Americans thought Jack was wacko and that exercise might actually be harmful. He would prove them wrong with stunts such as swimming from Alcatraz to Fisherman’s Wharf in San Francisco while handcuffed, shackled and towing a 1,000-pound boat. He was 60 at the time.
Handcuffed or not, we have no intentions of encouraging you to swim the Forth. However, we will encourage you to enjoy good health and fitness courtesy of today’s Big Deal which gives new members one month’s membership for £15; an 80% saving on the standard price.
Membership allows you access to the club at all times the club is open and full use of all the facilities. This includes being able to book in to the group exercise classes, including Zumba, Body Pump, Body Combat, Body Attack, Studio Cycling, Yoga and Line Dancing etc.
You will also be able to use the two gyms, swimming and spa pools, sauna and steam room. On top of all this, you will be given a complimentary towel to use on each visit and, let’s face it, the experience will be a lot more comfortable than trying to swim the San Fran Bay.
So, today’s Big Deal: £15 for one month’s membership for new members at Greens Health & Fitness in Edinburgh: an 80% saving on the standard £74.
