Bruntsfield Hotel

The Bruntsfield area of Edinburgh was originally called Brounysfelde or Browne’s Field, named after its owner, Richard Broun.

According to Wikipedia, he was the elder brother of Alan de Lawedre of the Haltoun House family.

And they were Zzzzzzzzzz Whoops! Sorry, dozed off there.

Casual dining

A four star townhouse hotel, the building sits by Bruntsfield Links, a short stroll from the King’s Theatre.

It is home to the welcoming Bisque Bar and Brasserie, a casual dining space with stylish modern looks.

Guests are invited to dine in a booth in the bar or in the restaurant area. If the weather is being unseasonably benevolent, you could take a table in the garden terrace.

Chilled Prosecco

Available from 2pm to 5pm, seven days a week, option one of this Big Deal is for two people to share two nibble plates. Each diner will also be offered a glass of chilled Prosecco or a pint of beer.

Also available from 2pm to 5pm, seven days a week, option two is for two people to have afternoon tea with a glass Prosecco.

There are five different sharing plates of nibbles to choose from. We can’t see past the mini pork belly and beef sliders or the monkfish cheeks with caper aioli.

However, we might be tempted by the wild mushroom arancini with truffle aioli or the breaded wasabi king prawn bites.

The haggis bonbon bites with an Arran mustard mayo are also popular.

Afternoon tea

Afternoon tea at The Bruntsfield Hotel is very appealing.

It all starts with a selection of cocktail sandwiches before we move on to the scones with clotted cream and jam.

The cake selection may vary but look out for delicacies such as the macaroon, a mini chocolate éclair, the white chocolate delice and the mini blueberry frangipane.

Of course, afternoon tea is served with tea and coffee.
