Unlike toothbrushes, husbands and two hour holiday slide shows, tapas are meant to be shared with friends.

With branches on both Hanover Street and on Shore Place in Leith, the Tapa restaurants bring a little Iberian sunshine to Auld Reekie.
With its stone walls and vaulted ceilings, the Leith Tapa feels most like a Spanish bodega but the Hanover Street branch has city centre ease of access and huge, sunny, window doors in its favour.
Both put on a spread of authentic Spanish tapas that would make the bars of San Sebastian look a little sparse in comparison.
At the last count, there were some 36 different choices of tapas on the menu and they range from old favourites such as tortilla, patatas bravas and battered prawns to cheeky beef casseroles, grilled chorizo sausages and Granny Carmen’s black pudding, chickpea and chorizo stew.
If you really want to get jiggy then the menu also has an international tapas section where such cross border delights as Moroccan-spiced lamb chops and deep-fried brie with chill sauce await.
Tapa also features a wide-ranging dessert menu which is considerably better than the ones you will find in most Spanish restaurants.
Their selection of Spanish brandies and liqueurs is pretty tempting as well.
At the time of writing, the sun is shining over Edinburgh and the city looks as though it could easily give Barcelona a run for its money in the style stakes.
All that’s needed to complete the picture is a table groaning with tapas; an observation which leads us neatly to today’s Big Deal:
