Ever feel that it’s unfair that you didn’t get to go to Hogwarts?
After all, you would have been fab at conjuring up white stags, drinking butterbeer and catching the golden snitch at quidditch.
What a tragic waste of your wizarding talent.
Never mind, because with today’s Big Deal, you can enjoy the wizard school experience for yourself with a Harry Potter Walking Tour of Edinburgh.
Wizards and winding streets
This is your chance to enter a world of magic by exploring the Harry Potter book and film sights of Edinburgh.
Available from 7th October to 24th February, you’ll get to visit the locations of your favourite scenes up close, including the entrance to Hogwarts (which is invisible to Muggles).
You’ll also explore the inspirational winding streets of Edinburgh’s Old Town and see the spot where JK Rowling wrote her books.
But this is more than just a walking tour – you’ll also be part of the action too.
Enter the story
Ever wondered if you’re a Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw or Slytherin?
You will find out for once and for all when you try out the Sorting Hat. Nail biting.
Throughout the tour, your knowledge will be tested with a quiz, giving you the chance to earn points for your House.
You’ll even have the chance to use your knowledge of spells to outwit the guide. So get practising, young apprentice wizard.
You will be met by your professional guide near the entrance to The Museum on the Mound to begin your walking tour. Tours run from either noon or 3pm on a Saturday only.
You’ll then be taken on a winding journey of mysterious Edinburgh, including the fictional entrance to Hogwarts, the original Diagon Alley and Castlehill, the burial ground of ‘he who must not be named.’
The tour will take in the dark corners and sunlit streets that inspired J.K. Rowling to create her magical universe. These include the historic Royal Mile, atmospheric Edinburgh Castle, Princes Street and Waverley.
By the end, you’ll not only have explored the world of Harry Potter firsthand, you’ll also have learned a lot more about the author and Edinburgh too.
The tour will take two hours, so be sure to wear comfortable shoes (or better still, bring your Nimbus 2000).
Happy Potter lovers
The tours have attracted some great reviews:

Better than Butterbeer
Winter is the perfect time to immerse yourself in a world of magic. Or if you decide to take the tour in the new year, it’s the ideal post-festive treat.
This would be a true adventure for you and a fellow Potter fan (young or old). It would also make an unusual gift idea.
Plus as you can purchase multiples – you could even make it a family day out.
