If you were to write down a list of luxuries that make life lovelier, what would you include?
For us, Champagne, gourmet food and boutique hotels would definitely be right up there.
Experience all three with today’s Big Deal for an Edinburgh escape to No 11 Brunswick Street, an elegant townhouse hotel ideally placed to enjoy the city.
Historic hotel, contemporary comforts
Part of a terrace of Georgian townhouses, and designed by William Playfair, No 11 Brunswick Street combines the grandeur of classic Edinburgh architecture with opulent, contemporary facilities.
Although located in a quiet residential area, No 11 Brunswick Street is within easy walking distance of city centre attractions such as the Edinburgh Playhouse and the boutique shops of George Street and Multrees Walk.
Put another way, it is ideal for a gourmet city break. And, as it is just a short walk from Waverley train station, it’s very easy to get to.
One or two nights
This Big Deal has four options, all of which are available seven nights a week.
Option one is for two people to enjoy an overnight stay in a Small Double room, and option two is for a two night stay in a Small Double room.
Option three is for two people to stay one night in an Executive Double, and option four is for a two night stay in an Executive Double.
As well as a continental or full Scottish breakfast, the offer includes a superb five course tasting menu on the evening of check-in.
Finally, you will also get to share a bottle of spectacular Princess Champagne (this isn’t any old sparkler but a premier cru Champagne with fresh, intense flavours balanced with a vivid acidity and a long finish).
No 11 Brunswick Street has ten individually styled rooms.
Small Doubles are cosy with en-suite bathrooms which feature large double showers or a bath with shower over, demisting mirrors and cosy-toe under floor heating.
The more spacious Executive Doubles feature king sized double beds, which can be configured either as either a double bed or as twin beds.
The rooms are also packed with fantastic facilities such as free internet access, a DVD player, iPod docking sound system, Egyptian cotton sheets, choice of pillows and luxury toiletries.
Depending on availability, there may be the option to upgrade rooms from a Small Double to a Double (£25 per room per night), or from an Executive Double to a Mini Suite (£45 per room per night) or a magnificent Georgian Suite (£65 per room per night).
Impressive Scottish brasserie
Willie Lonnie is the award-winning Head Chef of No 11’s Brasserie. He is committed to using Scotland’s best seasonal ingredients to craft his dishes, sourcing meats from local farms and seafood from Arbroath.
The fixed five course tasting menu changes with the seasons, but here is an example of the kind of selection that you might enjoy:
Deep-fried vegetarian haggis & turnip bonbons with tomato chutney (v)
Salad of duck pastrami, toasted cashew nuts, figs, and foraged wood sorrel
Cullen skink, a traditional Scottish soup with Smoked haddock, leeks, and potatoes
Trio of pork: roast grain mustard & thyme fillet; crispy pork cheek; and pancetta crisp, served with carrot puree, buttered peas & broad beans and Stornoway black pudding crumb
Warm chocolate fondant, peanut butter ice cream & peanut brittle
No 11 Brunswick Street has won plenty of fans on TripAdvisor, including these recent reviewers:
‘We found the owners and the staff at this hotel to be very friendly and helpful. The restaurant taster menu experience was superb. I would certainly recommend trying it.’
‘We stayed in one of the suites for a weekend. The room was lovely and had everything we needed. Large comfy bed and beautiful bathroom. Breakfast was served in the bistro and was freshly cooked to order, a really good choice of options and friendly service. As it was a weekend, we could park outside on the road for free (proper bays, not just normal roadside spaces). The hotel is about a 15 minute walk into the centre which you can do via the road (a few pubs and restaurants on the way), or through Calton Hill which is well worth the walk. Overall, very pleasant stay in a quiet, relaxing environment.’
‘Stayed here after day shopping expedition in Edinburgh. Evening dinner was excellent. We had the 5 course taster, with some champagne to wash things down. Breakfast poached eggs, black pudding (yummy), bacon was also freshly made with great produce. Hotel has great location, 400 yards to Lewis’s with parking outside. Highly recommend!’
