For the past 25 years, the restaurant at the George Hotel has built a reputation for offering generous portions to diners, with locally sourced produce used as much as possible.

You will be dining on two courses (a starter and a main) from the set menu. Individual dishes can change seasonally, but starters may include soup of the day, tomato & mozzarella salad or creamy garlic mushrooms with petite pan.

Mains often include grilled Cajun salmon with lemon mayonnaise, the chicken breast filled with black pudding and served with a light peppercorn sauce, or the quinoa roulade with red onion chutney.

As well as a superb variety of fine wine, quality cask ales on tap and both draught and bottled beers, the hotel also offers a full range of spirits, including several malt whiskies.

Magical Montrose

With the beach nearby and plenty of local walking routes, Montrose would make an invigorating getaway between now and early spring.

The town has various attractions, including a historic centre, a museum and an art gallery. On the outskirts is a lagoon nature reserve that attracts wildfowl and wading birds. You can catch a better glimpse of them at the Montrose Basin Wildlife Centre, which has tours, binoculars and telescopes.

Or you could head to the town’s sandy beach and stroll through the dunes to the striking white Scurdie Ness lighthouse. Further on are the cliffs of St. Cyrus, a national nature reserve and viewpoint.
