What makes a great winter getaway?
We’ve crunched the stats and this is the winning formula:
Elegant hotel with history plus convenient location multiplied by a log fire to the power of Prosecco squared.
All of which equals this Big Deal on an overnight B&B stay in Moffat House Hotel in Dumfries and Galloway.
Celebrity architect design
Originally built for the Earl of Hopetoun in the 1750s, Moffat House was designed by Robert Adams, the celebrity architect of his day.
Fast forward two and a half centuries and Moffat House Hotel retains its period charm and elegance but combines them with modern comforts and a warm welcome.
Very warm should you find yourself sitting next to one of the gorgeous open fires.
It’s the perfect setting for anyone keen to take a break from the city and relax in of Scotland’s prettiest little towns.
Just over an hour from Glasgow and an hour and half from Edinburgh, Moffat House Hotel is just off the High Street in the Victorian spa town of Moffat.
Along with sandstone pillars and a sweeping cantilevered staircase, it features twenty, individually decorated, ensuite rooms with free Internet access and satellite TV channels.
This offer is for two people to indulge in a one night getaway break in a standard double or twin at Moffat House Hotel.
As well as a chilled bottle of Prosecco on arrival, the offer includes a full Scottish breakfast in the morning.
If you want to make your stay extra special then there may be availability to upgrade to premium room for a supplement of £10, or a four poster room for an extra £20, payable direct to hotel.
If you choose to take lunch or dinner at the hotel (not included) then you are in for a fine meal.
Main courses in The Oaktree Restaurant might feature choices such as the Moroccan spiced lamb tagine; the steak and red wine pie or the tiger prawn skewers. There is also a grill section of steaks, burgers and chicken.
The Adam Lounge has a fine variety of draft beers and ales as well as a great selection of wines and Champagne, spirits and over 50 malt whiskies.
The latter go particularly well with the log fire in the lounge.
See & do in Moffat
Voted ‘The Best Kept Village in Scotland’ and a winner of the ‘Scotland in Bloom’ award, Moffat is fun to explore.
Further afield are attractions like the Great Mair’s Tail waterfall and Gretna Green. Or just relax in the sun lounge at the hotel and drink in the view of the 260-year-old oak tree in the courtyard.
Moffat House has had over 250 years experience of welcoming visitors. This is what a couple of more recent guests had to say on TripAdvisor. We’ve edited for length but not meaning:
‘My wife and I decided on a short break away to celebrate our wedding anniversary. Moffat is only a short one hour drive away from our home and an ideal location for a one night short break. The hotel was perfect… a warm welcome; the large king-size bed in a spacious room; a lovely meal in their restaurant which looks on to a large rear garden. After a full Scottish breakfast we headed home having thoroughly enjoyed our short visit. I highly recommend.’
‘Lovely stay… What an amazing place! We cannot fault the staff for their amazing customer service and hospitality… The ensuite room was a good size with an extremely comfortable bed and tea/coffee facilities. Dinner in the evening was lovely with a large selection on the menu, likewise the Scottish breakfast was tasty in the morning and freshly cooked. Thank you very much Moffat House, we will be back!!’
