‘Is this the most exquisitely located hotel in Scotland?’
pondered The Telegraph’s destination expert when visiting Knockinaam Lodge.
It sounds like it:
‘With a perfectly private beach looking across the Irish Sea, it’s the most relaxing of country house hotels: subtly polished to near perfection but not tiresomely grand. You may feel yourself nodding off, but what a heavenly place to wake up to.’
Wake up to today’s Big Deal on a one or two night stay at Knockinaam Lodge, the only luxury boutique hotel in Dumfries and Galloway.
Christmas gift idea
Set in 30 acres of stunning landscaped grounds which stretch down to a private beach, Knockinaam welcomes guests with personalised service, stunning individual rooms, and a delightful, intimate and romantic atmosphere.
It has won many awards including three AA red stars and three AA Rosettes for its exquisite food.
Valid from early January to the 28th of March 2018, this Big Deal would make a spectacular Christmas gift.
Option of five course dinner
Available 7 days a week, the offer is for two people to stay one or two nights with a glass of Prosecco on arrival and a full Scottish breakfast each morning.
Option two also includes a five course evening meal on the first night.
With just ten luxury bedrooms and suites, Knockinaam provides a relaxed, home away from home atmosphere with the added bonus of highly individualised service guests.
The offer is for a stay in a twin or double room. The three rooms available are Glen, Bachelor and East.
Individually designed, they all have their own charms.
The following are standard: LCD flat screen TVs with Freeview and DVD player; extensive DVD library; luxury toiletries by Purdies of Argyle; fluffy bathrobes; complimentary tea or coffee on arrival; portable hairdryer; turndown service and complimentary bottled water.
3 AA Rosettes
Knockinaam Lodge has a great reputation for the tremendous food prepared by Chef Tony Pierce and served in the romantic, candlelit restaurant.
The kitchen makes as much as possible in-house – from freshly baked bread each day to the wonderful raspberry jam and marmalade at breakfast or the tasty petit fours at the end of dinner.
The five course tasting style menu changes regularly but typical dishes might be the grilled fillet of wild sea bass with a tomato and red pepper emulsion or the slow roast fillet of Speyside Angus beef with Knockinaam new potatoes, green broccoli, a garlic beignet and a truffle and port reduction.
The extensive wine cellar has won several awards while the whisky list features more than 120 malts.
See & do
Dumfries and Galloway and the tranquil South coast of Scotland is a land of peaceful solitude and colourful, breathtaking scenery.
The coastlines bristle with delightful towns, villages, beaches and headlands. Inland, the more dramatic mountain scenes of the Galloway Hills dominate a large part of the region.
There are gardens galore to explore plus some of Scotland’s very best golf, particularly at Stranraer, Portpatrick and the Dumfries courses.
Of course, there is the Robert Burns connection and this is sensational walking and biking country.
Knockinaam Lodge has many an admirer on TripAdvisor. Edited for length, this is what three recent reviews had to say:
‘Amazing food. What a special place!! Really lovely setting and very clean and homely… The staff were really friendly… I don’t think I’ve ever been anywhere where they look after you so attentively…
There is lots of interesting things to do and see in the area. I will definitely be back and would highly recommend this hotel.’
‘Delightful, peaceful break. A long weekend leaving the rest of the world behind… the house and gardens looked superb. The hotel is exactly as described, perhaps old-fashioned but welcoming. All of the staff were great, efficient, happy and friendly. The food is very good and an enjoyable way to pass the evening. All in all well worth a visit for a special occasion.’
‘Returned here after a similar long weekend visit several years ago. Little has changed in that this is a real get away from it all place… Food is excellent and tasting style menu is very enjoyable… has its own (deserted) shingle beach… most of all this is just a true chill out place.’
