Comlongon Castle

Back when the Borders was the Scottish equivalent of the Wild West, it wasn’t unusual for Comlongon Castle to have a couple of kidnapped guests in the dungeon.

Their ransom would be paid in sheep or cattle.

This Big Deal has four options.

Option one is for two people to enjoy an overnight stay in a standard double or twin room with a full Scottish breakfast. Option two is for an overnight stay and includes a two course meal from the set menu.

Option three is for a two night stay with a full Scottish breakfast each morning and two course meal on the first night.

Option four is for an overnight stay for two in the gorgeous Honeymoon Lodge with a full Scottish breakfast, two course meal from the set menu and a bottle of Prosecco in the room on arrival.

All options are available seven days a week with a £10 per night supplement for Friday and Saturday night stays. Advance booking is necessary for weekend stays, as they are limited.

Medieval meets modern day

Steeped in Scottish Border history, Comlongon Castle has fourteen, luxury, en-suite bedrooms which blend Medieval atmosphere and modern comfort.

All rooms are individually themed and feature tea and coffee making facilities, Freeview TV and ironing facilities. The hotel has free Wi-Fi.

Honeymoon Lodge

The Honeymoon Lodge is a spectacular development for Comlongon.

Located next to the Medieval Keep, it is set within its own private walled gardens, with water features and sculptures by renowned local artist Lucianne Lassalle.

The Lodge consists of a large entertaining area, two bathrooms and a bedroom with a handmade, seven foot wide bed and, not one, but two separate dressing areas.

The bathrooms are lined with Travertine mosaics. One has a large, sunken, clover-leaf bath with its own television. Or you could use the walk-in shower room with its uniquely designed etched glass panels.

All the furniture in the Lodge has been especially commissioned from local firms and artists.

The Lodge has under floor heating throughout while the living room also boasts a six foot wide digitally controlled gas fireplace.

In short, the Honeymoon Lodge is stunning.

Dining at Comlongon

Comlongon has two elegant, period décor restaurants, with seasonal menus that change daily to reflect the availability of the finest ingredients.

Starters may include haggis bonbons served with a whiskey sauce and rocket side salad; wood pigeon breast with wild berry compote; or the creamy garlic mushrooms served on brown toast with a salad garnish.

Typical main courses might be the chicken breast stuffed with award-winning haggis, wrapped in bacon and served with potatoes, seasonal vegetables and an Irn-Bru jus; the poached salmon fillet with potatoes, seasonal vegetables and a creamy white wine and peppercorn sauce; or the mushroom Stroganoff served with boiled rice.

See & do

Located at the end of a mile-long, tree-lined drive, Comlongon Castle is ideal for a quiet, relaxing break. Near the Solway coast and the Galloway and Kielder forest parks, it is also well located for walks, cycle rides and mountain biking.

The nearby Caerlaverock Wetland Centre is a fantastic destination for wildlife lovers.
