The Highlands are bonny but so are the Borders in bloom.
As the seasons change, the Borders come into their own and, whisper it, they are often rather less busy than some of the Highland hot spots.
Escape the city and enjoy a breath of fresh air in the Borders with today’s Big Deal on an overnight stay for two at Barony Castle Hotel.
Located near Peebles, just seventeen miles south of Edinburgh and within easy reach of Glasgow, the hotel is very convenient for a relaxing break.
Peaceful Peebles getaway
This Big Deal includes a full Scottish breakfast plus a glass of wine each on arrival. Option two also includes a £23 dinner allowance each for the table d’hôte in the hotel’s 1536 Restaurant.
Wine is a choice of house red or white, and must be taken before 6pm.
The deal is available seven days a week. There is a £20 supplement for Friday night stays, and £30 supplement for Saturday night stays.
Beautiful Barony Castle
Barony Castle Hotel was originally a 16th century tower house built by the Murrays of Blackbarony.
Sitting pretty in 25 acres of lush gardens, the hotel’s sweeping white exterior might still look like a fairytale castle, but rest assured it has all of the modern comforts you would expect from a 21st century hotel.
Airy and comfortable rooms
Each of Barony Castle’s airy, modern ensuite rooms are decorated in soothing pastel shades with cheerful splashes of Scottish tartan.
You will be staying in a Classic double room, which includes free WiFi, satellite TV, a hairdryer and a hot drinks tray. Toiletries will also be provided.
For a twin room, guests are required to pay a £7.50 per night supplement.
With option two of the Big Deal, you will enjoy a £23 dinner allowance each for the table d’hôte at the stylish, award-winning 1536 Restaurant.
The restaurant keeps in mind those with dietary requirements, and thrives on using local produce and exciting combinations to create appealing dishes for all. They have previously been awarded the Visit Scotland ‘Taste our Best’ award.
Menus can change seasonally, but expect to find starters like the soup of the day, chicken liver pate or grilled asparagus spears, and mains including chicken supreme, grilled Cajun salmon or wild mushroom linguine.
Desserts often include toffee apple crumble tart or gingerbread cheesecake. Guests can add a third course on for £4.95 each.
Supplements may apply to some dishes.
After dinner you can relax with a drink in the Murray Lounge, which has three 58” flat screen TVs, plus use of a PlayStation 4 and Xbox.
For lunches, snacks and casual meals, you can head to the hotel’s cosy Blue Dug Bar.
Guests can enjoy full use of the hotel’s leisure facilities, including the thermal spa.
The leisure club features a swimming pool, heated loungers, experience showers, swan necks, a sauna and a spa bath, making it the perfect place to melt away the stress of everyday life.
Explore the Borders
The fabulous Glentress woodland trails are a short drive away from the hotel and are great for hiking and mountain biking.
Dawyck Botanic Garden, Kailzie Gardens and the John Buchan Story Museum are other highlights of the area.
