Sir Walter Scott set many of his swashbuckling novels in the region, and those visiting can easily picture daring outlaws and damsels in distress among the picturesque backdrop.

Experience the fairytale Scottish destination for yourself with this Big Deal for a stay at The Wheatsheaf Hotel in Swinton, Berwickshire.

Explore Scotland and England

The Wheatsheaf Hotel is situated in the quiet village of Swinton which is just a five minute drive from the border of England, meaning you can choose which country you’d prefer to explore.

Those wishing to stay on the Scottish side of the border can explore the stunning landscape and dark history of the area by visiting the abbeys and stately homes, strolling in the countryside, fishing in the River Tweed or visiting one of the local gin or whisky distilleries.

Those who would like to pop over to England can explore the Northumberland region, which includes quaint coastal villages, the puffins of Farne Island, and the area’s famous dark skies which are pin pricked with millions of stars.

The Wheatsheaf Hotel has attracted rave reviews from guests who have stayed there, averaging a rating of four and a half stars out of five on TripAdvisor. Recent reviews say:

‘A lovely welcome by lovely staff who were very helpful too… Our room was perfect in every way. Very modern but at the same time quaint (just how we like it). Stylish decor with stylish soft furnishings and great facilities within the room. The room was warm… The bed linen was fresh crisp and clean. I have never seen a shower so clean in all my life – in fact there wasn’t a spot of dirt/dust anywhere, we were extremely impressed by this… The food was ‘out of this world’ heavenly, to die for, cannot express it enough. Definitely of Michelin quality… The little village was delightful and quiet, perfect for a relaxing stay. We would definitely recommend it. The proprietor Michael has definitely done his homework; he knows exactly what people want from a hotel stay.’

‘We had the most wonderful, relaxing weekend at the Wheatsheaf Hotel. Michael and his staff are friendly, helpful, accommodating and genuinely want you to have the best time there possible. We had a classic double room and there was plenty of space for my husband and I. The room had a smart TV and the bathroom had full bath sheet towels, which we really appreciated. The food was outstanding and plentiful! We had dinner at the hotel both nights we were there and there was so much food, we could only eat two courses each night though we always wanted to eat more. The food and bar prices are very reasonable as well. Overall, the hotel is a great value and we are planning to be back sometime in the autumn.’
