Palm trees, sea views and menus packed with the best local produce.
Altachorvie Island Retreat ticks all the essential boxes for a relaxing getaway.
Sitting pretty on a secluded, elevated position in Lamlash on the Isle of Arran, Altachorvie enjoys a panoramic view of Holy Isle and King’s Cross point to the Clyde estuary and the Ayrshire Coast beyond.
Tucked away in its own mature gardens – complete with palm trees – it feels very private but is less than a ten minute drive from the ferry terminal at Brodick.
Now under new management, it’s the ideal retreat for a romantic break.
Available Sunday to Thursday, today’s Big Deal is for two people to enjoy an overnight getaway in a double or twin room.
As well as a full Scottish breakfast, this offer includes a £20 per room spend towards your food bill when both guests order a three course dinner at Altachorvie Island Retreat.
Altachorvie is beautifully decorated – check the log fire in the sitting room – and the bedrooms are no exception.
All thirteen of the luxurious bedrooms have en-suite facilities and sea or woodland views. If you are lucky or sharp-eyed, the latter might give you a glimpse of the resident pheasants, red squirrels and herons.
Double rooms are equipped with flat screen Freeview TVs with DVD player and radio; free Wi-Fi, hot drinks facilities and Arran Aromatics toiletries.
Altachorvie always give guests the best room available at the time of booking.
Scottish menus – local produce
Altachorvie’s menu style is distinctly Scottish with influences from around the world. The kitchen uses Arran producers and suppliers as much as possible.
Dinner is something special. The menus change regularly but typical starters might be the Altachorvie’s exquisite duck liver parfait or a potato waffle with smoked venison curls and hoisin.
The main event could feature a tian of locally smoked salmon with radish and cucumber topped with an indulgent flourish of salmon roe, velvet smooth swede and saffron velouté or a fillet of Arran lamb grilled with fresh herbs from the garden and creamed leeks with a crisp potato galette.
Dessert might be a délice made from the blackcurrants grown just over at King’s Cross point across the bay.
Since coming under new management, Altachorvie Island Retreat has earned many enthusiastic reviews on TripAdvisor:
‘Excellent hotel, excellent staff. Stayed two nights with dinner, bed and breakfast – food excellent. Stayed in room fourteen with stunning views of the Holy Isle. Staff so nice and very friendly. Will definitely be back! Lamlash really nice…’
‘A true retreat. This is a hotel a bit off the beaten track – along its own drive and in its own grounds in Lamlash… The view from the hotel is superb. Our room was small but comfortable, with everything we could need to hand, including toiletries from Arran Aromatics, a nice touch. Breakfast was cooked to order and was delicious. So too was our evening meal, great fresh produce cooked just the way we liked it. So all in all a great place to stay, one to which we’ll hopefully return.’
Altachorvie Island Retreat is the perfect Arran getaway.
