Life looks better while lunching in a scenic restaurant overlooking the ocean. Especially if that restaurant is based in an iconic 19th century hotel.
Add a cocktail or two to that picture and it looks absolutely perfect.
Enjoy all of the above with today’s Big Deal on a two course lunch for two at The Marine Hotel in Troon, with optional cocktails.
Historic seaside hotel
Less than an hour’s drive from Glasgow city centre, The Marine Hotel has long been one of the gems of the Ayrshire coast.
Purpose built in 1894, this spa hotel was given 4 AA stars in 1912 and has maintained that rating ever since – the only Scottish hotel to have done so.
It is particularly popular with golfers who love the fact that the restaurant overlooks the 18th hole of the Royal Troon course.
The hotel’s Truin Restaurant serves up seasonally inspired dishes using fresh local ingredients.
As well as overlooking the Royal Troon course, the restaurant also has views all the way to Arran – perfect for dining on a spring or summer day.
Available seven days a week until 30th June, this Big Deal has two choices. Option one is for a two course lunch for two people from the market menu. For a tipsier lunch, option two adds on a cocktail each.
Menus can change seasonally, but expect the following:
Soup of the day, warm crusty bread
Baby Caesar salad, croutons, grana padano cheese and crispy bacon
Pea and ham terrine, piccalilli relish and crusty bread
Bruschetta, medley of mushrooms in a herb cream sauce on crisp bread (v)
Chicken liver parfait, oatcakes and red onion marmalade
Slow-cooked braised blade of beef, red wine jus, market vegetables and chive mash (gf)
Smoked salmon superfood salad, quinoa, tenderstem broccoli, sweet potato, fresh berries finished with a chilli oil (v/gf/df)
Macaroni cheese, garlic bread (v)
Chicken Balmoral, skirlie potatoes, market vegetables and a mustard jus
Chicken Caesar salad, croutons, grana padano cheese and crispy bacon
Make a day of it
There is no shortage of things to see a short walk or drive away from the hotel.
Highlights include the whimsical Fullarton Fairy Trail, Dundonald Castle and Prestwick Beach, as well as Burns National Heritage Park and Culzean Castle.
Ayr Racecourse is another popular destination.
The Truin Restaurant on TripAdvisor:
‘My wife and I visited the hotel this weekend to celebrate our first wedding anniversary… From the moment we arrived we were treated brilliantly by the helpful and courteous staff… The meal we had at the hotel restaurant was to die for… Again, the staff serving in the restaurant were so pleasant and helpful. We’ve completely fallen in love with the Marine and it will be a place we continue to visit in the future…’
Spring or summer treat
Heading to the beach for the day is always nice.
But throw in a historic hotel, two course lunch and maybe even a cocktail, and you have everything you need for a gorgeous spring or summer day out.
Plus if you are a golfer, then all the better as you will be right on the doorstep of the Royal Troon course.
Now all you have to do is decide who you are taking with you…
