Great philosophical questions of our time, No 45: Should the word ‘scone’ rhyme with ‘Ron’ or ‘Rhone’?
Pick a side and discuss over today’s Big Deal on afternoon tea in the lovely Burnhouse Manor Hotel in Ayrshire.
A romantic little country house hotel, Burnhouse Manor is close enough to Glasgow to be convenient for a day trip.
At the same time, its rural location, near Stewarton, makes it a tranquil spot for kicking back and taking it easy over a pot of tea and a scone topped with lashings of jam.
Sound good, but think you need something a bit more sturdy? The option of high tea is also here, just for you.
Two or four people
This Big Deal is for two people to have classic afternoon tea – a house speciality – or high tea at Burnhouse Manor.
Afternoon tea is available from 11am to 4pm and high tea is available from 4pm to 7pm, both valid seven days a week.
Afternoon tea is a real treat at Burnhouse Manor Hotel and the in-house bakers work tirelessly ensuring the tastiest treats are on the menu.
As well as tea or coffee, afternoon tea includes sandwiches with an array of fillings followed by a selection of tray-bakes, sponge, meringues, scones and the extremely popular Burnhouse strawberry tarts.
With option two, guests can dig into the more hearty high tea menu, with options like breast of chicken on haggis with a peppercorn sauce; traditional steak pie with a puff pastry lid; homemade lasagne with garlic bread; and creamy mac & cheese with chips.
High tea includes toast with jam and butter, a selection of home baking, and is served with tea or coffee.
Burnhouse Manor Hotel has plenty of enthusiastic reviews of the afternoon tea on its Facebook page. We have edited them for length:
‘Came here for afternoon tea for my mum’s birthday. We had a lovely selection of sandwiches and cakes and the staff were lovely. I had only very briefly mentioned that if was my mum’s birthday, but somehow they managed to find her a little cupcake and candle! Lovely attention to detail, and a personal touch to make our quiet afternoon out just that bit more special!’
‘What a wonderful place. Our waiter James was a delight and extremely helpful. The surroundings and grounds were amazing, a great little gem. We will definitely be back with family – can’t wait.’
This is from TripAdvisor:
