Cosy pubs and hearty food – ideal to come by on a summer day out.
The Ship Inn in Irvine, has both in spades. The 16th century Inn, the oldest pub in Irvine, has a roaring fire, tartan carpets, and a menu of comforting dishes.
It’s very welcoming to dogs – perfect for bringing your pup in with you to warm up after letting it run around in Irvine beach, just a two minute walk away.
The Ship Inn plays an important role in Scottish cultural history too – Robert Burns was a regular visitor and the pub is where he met his mentor Captain Richard Brown, the man who encouraged him to pursue his path in poetry.

Recent reviews say:
‘I visited the Ship Inn on Irvine harbourside last weekend for the second time and once again my companion and I were treated to a warm welcome and a place by the open fire. The staff were unfailingly friendly and polite and we were given a brief but very interesting history of this beautiful 16th Century pub, frequented by Robert Burns. The food is excellent and very reasonable priced with first class service. Highly recommended. Many thanks to all.’
‘Gem of a place. Went for lunch with husband, mother in law and our dog, it was fantastic, we all had different things from the menu and we finished everything on our plates, waitresses were fantastic, efficient but very friendly. We will definitely be back.’
