Some 300 years old, The Dumfries Arms Hotel has played host to many a colourful character over the years.
Not least of these were Robert Burns – who was very fond of the old hotel bar – and the novelist Sir Walter Scott.
A regular visitor, Scott once said, ‘Old Cumnock, where the beds are as hard as planks, sir.’
How times have changed.
The Dumfries Arms Hotel may have started life as a staging post. These days it is a contemporary, stylish boutique hotel.
And the beds in the 26 individually styled, ensuite rooms are as comfy as they are cosy.
See for yourself with today’s Big Deal on a one or two night stay in this Cumnock landmark.
One or two nights
The Big Deal is for two people to have a one or two night stay in a standard twin or double room with breakfast each morning. As well as a glass of Prosecco, the offer includes a two course dinner – starter and main course – for each guest on the evening of check-in.
Your room will be equipped with a flat screen TV, WiFi, a shower and hot drinks facilities.
This offer is available seven days a week with a £20 supplement payable for Friday and Saturday night stays.
Grab a booth in the restaurant and enjoy hearty dishes such as the traditional steak and pie with creamed mash or the crispy West Coast haddock with chips, mushy peas and tartare sauce.
There is also a selection of burgers and steaks available. There is a supplementary charge of £3 for the starter of crispy king prawn tempura and £8 for steak dishes.
See & do
This stylish hotel would make the ideal base for a golfing holiday; a trip to the races or an exploration of Ayrshire’s attractions such as Culzean Castle or Burns’ cottage.
Guests have left lots of approving reviews of Dumfries Arms Hotel on TripAdvisor. We have edited these for length:
‘The hotel is light, bright and welcoming. The welcome was warm, the accommodation first class and the food was excellent.’
‘Gorgeous hotel. I cannot fault this hotel at all. It is so modern and lovely throughout. Our welcome at reception was so friendly and the staff were extremely helpful. The room was clean and spacious and I loved the added extras of the toiletries… There was good ventilation, comfy bed and a clean bathroom. The restaurant and bar were lovely also and again the staff could not have been nicer. The car park was great and it is situated in a lovely little town. I would definitely recommend and will be going back here.’
This guest enjoyed their meal:
‘Not your run of the mill pub grub. Family lunch… and we were all very impressed.
The food is freshly prepared with a nice twist on traditional dishes without being pretentious.’
Available until the end of April, this Big Deal from Dumfries Arms Hotel would make a relaxing short break for anyone who wants to escape the humdrum for a day or two.
It’s a long way until Easter and this offer is a fantastic way to skip work and explore Burns’ country.
