Perfect getaway

As the name suggests, the Ferryman’s Cottage was the original home of the signalman who would co-ordinate voyages between Tayinloan and the island of Gigha.

The ferryman has gone but the CalMac still carries passengers from the mainland to this beautiful island and back.

It’s a short journey – just twenty minutes – but the trip from the mainland to the island takes you to another world of white sand and blue water.

Summer castaway

Become a castaway with today’s Big Deal on a stay at the self-catering Ferryman’s Cottage on the West Coast island of Gigha.

Ideally located close to the ferry slip, the beach and the well-stocked local shop, the spacious cottage sleeps five with a double bed in one bedroom and three singles in the other.

From the comfort of the large lounge, you can watch the ferry come and go or admire the splendid yachts at anchor in the beautiful Ardminish Bay.

It is also very near to the welcoming Gigha Hotel with its superb dining room and cosy bar.

Well equipped

Available on selected dates from the start of October 2017 to the end of March 2018, the offer is for up to five people to stay two, three, four or five nights in the self-catering Ferryman’s Cottage. This offer is available seven nights, with limited availability for Sunday night stays.

The cottage has electric heating and the well equipped kitchen features an electric cooker, fridge freezer and microwave. There is also a colour television in the lounge for those relaxing evenings in front of the fire with a glass of your favourite malt whisky.

Linen and electricity are included. If you want to get the fire going, firewood can be bought from the hotel or local shop.

The first ten bookings made for a stay of three of more nights in 2018 will receive a complimentary bottle of wine.

Scottish produce

The island has a shop and Post Office that provide general goods and provisions as well as fresh local milk.

As we noted, the kitchen is fully equipped. If you don’t fancy cooking, the offer also includes a 50% discount on food from the Sound of Gigha Bistro in the hotel. The discount is available for one night of your stay.

Awarded a Taste Our Best 2015/16 title from Visit Scotland, the hotel’s chefs are proud to serve local ingredients. Advance booking is recommended.

See and do

Gigha may be small but there is no shortage of things to do on the island. Many guests like to explore the magnificent Achamore Gardens.

You could also hire a sea kayak, rowing boat or wetsuit from Gigha Boats Activity Centre; play the island’s challenging 9-hole golf course or simply walk to the top of Creag Bhan and watch the sun set behind Islay.

A highlight for many visitors is watching dolphins play off the South Pier.

Island getaway

The drive from Glasgow to Tayinloan passes Loch Lomond, the Rest-and-Be-Thankful pass, Loch Long and Loch Fyne.

It takes about two and a half hours and many reckon it is one of the most beautiful drives in Scotland.

Add on the ferry trip and you could leave Glasgow at lunch and be enjoying the views from the Ferryman’s Cottage before Countdown starts.

If the thought of a long, hot and sticky summer in the city is beginning to grate, it’s time to make a break for the islands.

Snap up this Big Deal on self-catering accommodation on Gigha and look forward to feeling the sand between your toes.
