Lochside luxury

Winners at the Scottish Hotel Awards the past two years running, The Knockderry House Hotel is a luxury country house escape overlooking Loch Long, with easy access to Loch Lomond and the Trossachs.

The house was designed by famous Victorian architect, William Leiper, known for his turrets, towers and flourishes. Facilities include a 2 AA Rosette restaurant, lounge bar and library.

The hotel is in the sleepy village of Cove, just over an hour’s drive from Glasgow city centre.

Heavenly hideaway

This Big Deal is for a one night stay for two. You’ll enjoy a full Scottish breakfast in the original wood-panelled dining room, which has stained glass windows and a view of the loch.

Every guest room at the Knockderry House Hotel is individually designed and includes original character features. You can choose to stay in either a King Room or a Master Room. The Master Rooms were once the principal bedrooms of the house and have now been totally refurbished.

Both premier room types include an ensuite bathroom, king size four-poster bed with Egyptian cotton bedlinen, sofa bed, plasma flat screen TV with digital channels, DVD player, fluffy bathrobes, free local calls and free wifi.

You’ll also be able to spoil yourself with handmade organic toiletries from Arran Aromatics, a selection of fresh ground coffee, Twinings quality teas, tasty biscuits and a home-baked treat from the Pastry Chef.

Is there anywhere better to enjoy cream tea than a Victorian country house setting? We think not.

Your spread will include a glass of Prosecco each, delicious plain and fruit scones with homemade jam and rich clotted cream, plus your choice of freshly brewed teas or coffee. And to add a unique personal touch – the house speciality, Knockderry’s own handmade macaroons.

Castles and cruises

The area around Loch Long is great for fishing, cycling and walking. There are also various popular attractions nearby, including Inveraray Castle, Linn Botanic Gardens and the Charles Rennie Mackintosh designed Hill House.

If you fancy sampling some whisky, head to Auchentoshan Distillery for a wee tour.

Loch Lomond is a 30 minute drive away. Once there you can visit the pretty village of Luss, shop at Loch Lomond Shores or even take a boat cruise. Other nearby lochs include Holy Loch and Loch Goil.

If you’re a fan of water activities then sailing, water skiing, wind surfing, sea kayaking and canoeing are all available in the area.

The hotel is also known for its quality dining experience – should guests wish to sample the food, book in for a meal with the hotel directly.

‘Had a 2 night stay over a weekend. The building is a mix of old and new – I was in an old room, comfortable bed, large room, ok view. Hotel had a guest pantry, in case you wanted anything additional to that provided in the rooms. Lovely public rooms, very comfortable seating. Dining room light and airy with awesome views over the loch. The staff were great. Thoroughly recommend it – felt like I was a house-guest rather than a hotel occupant!’ 5/5 rating
